Bengaluru, Jun 18: The newborn who was rescued by cops after being abandoned near a house under construction died following brain infection here.
The baby was rescued by the Electronics City police after a shopkeeper informed them about the newborn stuffed in a plastic bag and abandoned under a bush near a house under construction in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru. Police constable Archana, attached to the Electronic City police station and also a mother of three-month old baby had nursed the baby when it was brought to her station. Later the baby was shifted to Shishu Mandir on Hosur Road.
But after a day, the baby developed some health problems and was admitted to a hospital. The director of the hospital Asha Benakappa confirmed the death of the child. "The baby's brain was injured when it was brought here and it died on June 7 following brain infection."
Constable Archana too was in tears hearing the news of death of the baby whom she had nursed. "When the baby was brought to the station, it had injuries on the head. But we did not know that it would claim its life," she said.
The constable's humanitarian act of saving the abandoned newborn was appreciated by all including Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who decided to meet her. But the news of the baby's death has come as a shock to many.
