Bengaluru, Jun 20: Another case relating to income tax fraud has been filed against medical education minister, D K Shivakumar. The minister has been accused of providing false information and providing fake records to avoid payment of income tax. The case stands filed in the special court for economic offences here.

The case also has named Sachin Narayan, entrepreneur, Sunil Kumar Sharma, both of whom are considered to be close confidantes of the minister, and personal assistant of the minister at New Delhi, Anjaneya Hanumathayya and N Rajendran.

The special court served summons to five of the accused, and posted the hearing to August 2. All the five accused including Shivakumar will have to present themselves in the said court and obtain bail.

Shivakumar faces fresh charges of purposefully trying to avoid payment of tax, penalty and interest under section 276 C - 1 of IT Act, making false statements and providing false accounts under section 277, purposeful creation of fake evidences and providing manufactured documents during legal processes as per section 193 of Indian Penal Code and making false statement affirming that statement recorded earlier were true under section 199. The others have been charged with filing of false returns and conspiracy to avoid income tax.

In connection with raids conducted on residences and offices of Shivakumar and his close ones during August 2017, three cases have already been filed, and hearing into them has already begun. Shivakumar has appeared for hearing twice and recorded his statements in the earlier cases. All these three cases have since been transferred to the special court for economic offences which was newly opened here. The fourth case also is likely to be transferred to this special court soon.
