Mangaluru/Kasargod, Jun 19: Surendra Shetty Bantwal, a Coastalwood film actor who allegedly assaulted BJP workers with a sword in Baddakatte last week was arrested at Pachinadka in Mangaluru on Thursday June 21. His aide Sathish Kulal was also arrested along with the actor.
Surendra had allegedly attacked Ganesh and Pushparaj on June 11. After the attack Surendra had gone absconding.
Another accused identified as Prithviraj J Shetty was arrested at Kumble the same day.
It is said that on Monday June 11 afternoon at around 1 pm, Surendra and his gang wielded swords and allegedly attacked BJP activists Ganesh, Charan, Pushparaj and others who were in a restaurant at Baddakatte. It is alleged that Surendra Shetty and his accomplices hurled expletives at BJP activists and assaulted them.
Surendra-led gang had allegedly attacked Bajrang Dal member Bhuvith Shetty's gang, allegedly in retaliation over an attack by the latter at a salon on June 10.
Surendra Bantwal was identified with a right-wing organization in the past and was a rowdy-sheeter. He had joined the Congress recently. He has also acted in the Tulu film 'Chaali Polilu'. The video showing the actor threatening with a sword and hurling expletives had gone viral in social media.
A case was registered at Bantwal town police station. On getting credible information that Surendra and his aide Sathish were in Kumble, a special team arrested them on June 21. They will be produced in court in the evening.
Deepak, Pavan, Shailesh and Ranjith have already been arrested in this case. Other accused Tilak, Manohar and Pradeepa are absconding.
