Companies face worst talent crunch in 12 years, India among most affected nations


New Delhi, Jun 26 (PTI): Employers around the world are facing the most acute talent shortage in 12 years, and India is among the top 10 most-affected markets with 56 per cent of employers are facing difficulty in filling vacant positions here, says a survey.

According to the latest Talent Shortage Survey released today by ManpowerGroup, of almost 40,000 employers surveyed globally, 45 per cent are struggling to fill roles. "With record talent shortages around the world, it's no longer a question of simply finding talent; we need to build it," ManpowerGroup Chairman & CEO Jonas Prising said.

Prising further noted that "organisations need to accelerate efforts to up-skill and re-skill employees for the new world of work so companies succeed and people have employment security for the long term".

The worst affected country across the world in terms of talent shortage is Japan, as 89 per cent employers said they faced difficulty in filling positions, followed by Romania (81 per cent) and Taiwan (78 per cent).

As companies go digital and roles transform, finding candidates with the right blend of technical skills and human strengths, such as communication, collaboration and problem solving, is more important than ever, the survey said, adding that top drivers of talent shortage are lack of applicants, experience and hard skills.

Others in the top 10 most affected countries include Hong Kong (76 per cent), Bulgaria (68 per cent), Turkey (66 per cent), Greece (61 per cent), Singapore (56 per cent) and Slovakia (54 per cent).

Meanwhile, China has the least difficulty in finding the right talent as only 13 per cent employers report talent shortage, followed by Ireland (18 per cent), UK (19 per cent), the Netherlands (24 per cent) and Spain (24 per cent).

As per the survey, employers are placing greater importance on transferable soft skills as roles adapt, more than half of employers say communication skills written and verbal are their most valued soft skills, followed by collaboration and problem solving.

Region-wise, Asia Pacific nations are suffering most acutely from talent shortages, with five of the top 10 worst affected markets in the survey: Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.

    Even Germany is looking for talents mostly in IT branches,nursing ,dept has a acute need.Previously they were not taking indian nurses,but now they are ready to take provided they know german language grad B2In homes for aged ,there is a need too.In certain branches of Bakery itself they need persons to learn .During that time htey earn good.

    Today his words are haunting nations own talents. Prime minister promises is more 'pakoda jobs' for millions of new entrants to the job market a "cruel joke".

    Report on Employment-Unemployment Survey 2015-16', he pointed out that nearly half of India's workforce 46.6%is self-employed out of which 41%earn up to only Rs 5,000 a month.

    Thanks to the neo-liberal policies, there is a type of economic growth which does not produce jobs, except low-paid jobs in the informal sector and mainly contractual jobs in the organised sector,".

    The economic slowdown and demonetization have killed off-job prospects and shrinking opportunities for rural employment have aggravated the situation.

    This report is alarming for India as many Indians opt for better opportunity for their talent.

    Even Mahatma Gandhi said that no occupation is lowly. There should be dignity of labour.

    "But I want to ask the Prime Minister that when a pakora seller, by going beyond his means and skipping meals, somehow gets his son educated... does he expect his son to sell pakoras along with him?

    Even GCC countries are thinking twice to employ expatriates over their own citizens rites. Future will be bleak for lots of qualified candidates. Our government must think seriously and only abusing and blaming the previous government.

    One day we hear 90% of the newly qualified Indian emgineers are unemployable.

    Then we hear the companies are desperate for new people.

    At least it is good news for the Central Government as it has failed finding any employment to the millions.

    I am a pakode lover.
    Here so many small scale pakode shops doing brisk business and make money.
    Even when I go down on holidays I enjoy such stuff for breakfast and for evening coffee. Yunmi! Since its rainy season, extra urge and demand for Placode.

    Companies should hire people based on talent and smartness of the candidate and not on marks...they keep cutoff 70+.. Anyone can byheart and score in 80s and 90s.. People scoring in 50% wil be more talented than 90s...so many eligible people wont be able to get into good companies due to cutoff...
