Nun alleges sexual assault, FIR lodged against bishop in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 30 (NIE): Kerala police on Friday registered a case against Bishop Franko Mulakkal, Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar, following a complaint from a Catholic nun that she was sexually assaulted by him.

Kottayam’s Superintendent of Police Hari Sanker said the case against the bishop was registered at Kuravilangadu police station based on the nun’s complaint.

“The bishop has given a complaint against the nun, saying that she has threatened him. Police have registered two cases based on the complaints,” the SP said.

The district deputy superintendent of police (intelligence) has been asked to probe the two cases,’’ he said.

Police sources said Mulakkal had complained to the police last week that he was threatened by the nun after she was transferred. The nun has complained that she was sexually abused by the bishop in 2014.

Sources said Mulakkal in his complaint against the nun had alleged that she was threatening to entrap him in a sex scandal.

Mulakkal, who comes from Kerala, was appointed an auxiliary bishop of Delhi in 2009. He was made the bishop of Jalandhar in 2013.

    It is disgusting for devout Catholics to come across violations against the Oath of Chastity by church hierarchy. Only solution now left is the Pope should declare a "General Amnesty" calling for offenders to mend their status or leave the Holy Orders & go. Day by day this is getting worst & it has shaken the fidelity of loyal Catholics

    Nun was transferred and now filing case against Bishop sexual assault.
    Points to be noted dear honour she was sexually abused in 2014 and complaing now in 2018. Why she was kept quiet so many years.
    Look like false allegations against the Bishop with no evidence.

    As many as 10 person complained about Ashram but here only one person complained about the bishop, while the bishop as complained about the nun too, if there were many complaint against bishop then we could have assumed bishop is sailing in same boat. Am I right?

    why did she wait for so long?anyways guilty should be punished and removed from the position. Thy are unfit to be in holy positions...be it nun or bishop or both.

    The nun was transferred, and she resented it.

    So, citing a sexual assault is the easiest form of revenge. People have to bear in mind that, according to SC assessment, over 90% of cases of rape and sexual assaults turn out to be false.

    Eventually truth will come out. Until the I would think it is just a revenge by the nun who resented her transfer.

    Almost all Keralite nuns take up the profession because of the pressure from their families, and not because they love to be nuns. Most of them are bitter about their life.

    Rajesh, i dont think our top political leaders including pm was in que to touch feet a d seek blessing from bishop as was the case with rapist and murderer asaram. Also there r no bhakts to do rowdism like they did supporting rapist asaram. Why the nun re.embered sexual assault after 4 years only after her transfer ? If the bishop found guilty he should b given harshest punishment. Anyhow, this is a mallu case. Any damn thing can happen with mallus and in their gods own country.
