Maoist leader killed in Chhattisgarh


Raipur, July 1 (IANS): A Maoist commander has been killed in Chhattisgarh in a shootout with the police, officials said on Sunday.

The Maoist, gunned down on Saturday night in Sukma district, has been identified as Jaggu. His body was found on Sunday morning.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena said the gunfight broke out after the Maoists opened fire at a police patrol. The other Maoists retreated after the police retaliated.

A large number of weapons and Maoist literature were found at the site.
