Kasargod, Jul 4: The district additional sessions court here on Tuesday, Jul 3, awarded life sentence and Rs 50,000 fine to the first wife of a man for killing his second wife who was seven months pregnant.
The victim was sleeping with her husband when she was murdered.
Misriya (27), a resident of Goa and the first wife of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Kannambatti of Hidayat Nagar, Uppala near here is the person who has been sentenced to life. She was slapped with fine for killing Nafisat Misriya (21), second wife of Abdul Rehman.
This incident had taken place on August 7, 2011 at 6 am. The convict had poured petrol through the window of the room where the deceased Nafisat and her husband Abdul Rehman were sleeping and set them on fire. Both Abdul Rehman and Nafisat had received severe burns. Nafisat who was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru had succumbed to the injuries later. She was seven months pregnant at the time of this heinous act.
Abdul Rehman was on treatment for a long time. The convict Misriya is the first wife of Abdul Rehman and she has two children from him. Abdul Rehman had deserted his first wife Misriya and had married Nafisat. Enraged by this act of her husband, Misriya planned to eliminate both her husband Abdul Rehman and his second wife Nafisat.
The then circle inspector of Kumbla police station, U Preman had arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet in the court.
34 witnesses testified in the court. P Raghavan was the public prosecutor in this case.
The court, in its verdict, said that the convict has to undergo three years of additional imprisonment if she fails to pay the fine.
