Mangaluru: Fraudulent transaction in bank account - J R Lobo loses Rs 49,000

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 7: Former MLA of the city (south) constituency, J R Lobo, lost Rs 49,000 by way of debit to his account maintained in a bank. The money was taken away from his account on Thursday July 5 after collecting details of his debit card.

It is learnt that Lobo received a call on his cellphone from a person who claimed himself to be an employee of State Bank. The caller won over confidence of the MLA by claiming to update his account. He made the former MLA to reveal all the details of his debit card including PIN and OTP. The said amount was siphoned off through three different transactions.

Lobo came to know that he was tricked, after receiving debit advices from the bank. A complaint under information technology act was registered, and Kadri police have taken up investigation.

It is unfortunate that Mr. J.R.Lobo has been duped. Indeed it is his hard earned money. Hope the Police will find a way of tracking the culprit.

This is very unfortunate happened in the case of Mr.Lobo. Sometimes, even though one is aware of such cases, you get carried away. I hope and believe, he will surely get this amount credited to his account and he needs to cancel this card.

I once received such a call and I asked him for his name and all details before asking me. I was firm and told him that I do not need any help as I can manage. He was only continuing his dialogue and I just disconnected the line. No calls thereafter.

This issue is serious and a lesson to learn for all. God bless.

All those who are calling him brainless, need to think before they put such comments, this could happen even to our parents. As they grow older they can be tricked easily, it is not because they are dumb, it is thier innocence. Also Mr Lobo could have resolved this just by complaining to the police station, by doing so he wouldn’t have to face the humiliation done by people by thier unwanted comments. He wanted others to be on an alert and has published the news on Daijiworld. Respect him people. Think before you’ll comment. Kindly do not try to get politics here

Think full facts have not been divulged.
The person must have been known to Lobaam.
Or it must have happened in a matter of haste ,tension and awareness
It happens to many and you cannot be on your guard always.
I stand with Lobaam. Moreover, with a Party President like the one he has I certainly can know the pressure....
May the culprit be caught and brought to book.

    To All the intelligent Commentators

It’s dis heartening to read your comments you have passed. It’s very easy to comment on a persons intelligence level without giving a thought over what was the nature and content of the conversation. Such callers can be very convincing by providing information about people related to the banks concerned.

Mr Lobo had the presence of mind to report the caller after discovering the uncalled for debits in his account. What is worrisome is that we have crooks in the society that are after your hard earned money through dubious means and wouldn’t spare any effort to siphon of your earnings.

Being educated or not is a very irrelevant point to raise, as our society is so desperate for money that would even sell their most important right aka their right to vote just to earn those easy Rupees. Having said that many of us in society fall for the trap of chit funds or institutions that promise to double or triple your money - what makes people fall into it? It’s not education it’s the financial situation that one is in and greed that does it.

Taking precautions is definitely necessary for everyone and in spite of that one can be robbed either physically or electronically - the effect is the same. I am a victim of a car break in in a country which is considered to be very safe ie the USA and I was just visiting! End of the day it’s just ones misfortune and one needs to take necessary steps to mitigate the damage done.

Very sad to see such an incident.
Its quite common these days, I was also cheated thru online hacking of my credit card.

Cyber Crime Department are not taking it serious, I tried informing the department but was disappointed they don't respond. If they little respond surely their are so many activities can be traced. Carding is become very popular now a days. Hackers buy products from Flipkart and Amazon using hacked accounts and sell it on cheaper rates. Most of calls and gang are from the. North.

If cyber wants to crack the cases we can definitely help them. Thru. Support of the common people these cases can really be cracked.

Why point fingers at JRL ? He is human and if he made a mistake once he will never repeat it for sure. However, if person like Modi is PM and wins on his name state after state we can very well understand the intelligence level of our voters who are ready to show their 'great intelligence level' repeatedly again and again.

It’s not about intelligence or unintelligence. It’s highly unfortunate where anybody in any part of the world can get trapped. About a year back I received the following SMS from my local bank which I had kept saved - “Dear customer, beware of fraud through phone calls, emails and SMS. If you receive any suspicious communication, call us on …….. or visit ……”
