Karkala, Jul 9: In an incident that has taken place at Aiyappa Nagar, near Kukkundur here a woman was hacked to death.

Florine Machado (54) is the woman who was murdered.

The incident came to light on the afternoon of Sunday, Jul 8. The dead body was covered with a bed sheet. A deep wound was noticed on the stomach of the victim. It is suspected that she is murdered with the knife.

Woman was separated from her husband

The deceased woman had some differences with her husband and they were living separately for six years. Husband was residing at Hukratte near Mala and Florine, the deceased was living at Kukkundur. The couple has two children. The younger son is living with the father and the elder one was living with his mother. As there was a holiday for school on Saturday, the elder son, who was residing with the deceased lady, had also left for his father's place. Florine was all alone on the night of Saturday, Jul 7.

Florine had not attended the church on Sunday morning. One of her relatives, a lady, came to her house in the afternoon to visit her. The murder came to light at that time.

Private finance deal might be the reason?

It is learnt that Florine used to give money on interest and of late had suffered a loss. The money which was given to borrowers was not being returned to her on the due date. There is a strong suspicion that this might be the reason for her murder.

Laxman Nimbargi, superintendent of police, Udupi, Kumara Chandra, additional police superintendent, Kumaraswamy, DySP, Nanja Naika, police sub-inspector, Karkala town police station and other officials of the forensic laboratory visited the spot and conducted spot inspection.

Deceased had contact with police

It is being said that Florine had contact with the police since some years. Whether she took the help of police to recover the private finance money that she used to lend or did she received any threat or any other personal reasons are also being circulated as the probable reason for her killing.

Nobody heard any cry for help

The murdered lady was alone at her home on the night of Saturday, Jul 7. However, no one has got any clue with regards to this incident in the night of Saturday. The locals say that they did not hear any sound or cry for help.
