Mandya, Jul 9: As the suicide of 11 members of Delhi family to attain 'Moksha' is still fresh in the minds of people, a similar shocking incident is reported from here in which a mantrik (sorcerer) instigated a family to commit suicide to attain salvation.
It is said that a transgender mantrik from Mysuru was exhorting the family of Anita, a resident of Maragowdanahalli of this taluk to kill themselves to attain Moksha. Even the police did not register a complaint against the said sorcerer though Anita approached them to file a case against him.
Anita is married to a man from Hunsur and was leading a happy life. Her husband got acquainted with a transgender mantrik from Mysuru who was doing astrology also. Anita's husband used to go to him often to ask some questions on the future. The mantrik, who tried to take advantage of the gullible husband of Anita, advised him that if he commits suicide by chanting the name of God, he will attain Moksha.
Anita's husband had confided in her about this. But Anita and her family did not pay much attention to the issue. However, it is said that the mantrik started pestering the family to commit suicide by calling them repeatedly on their mobile phone.
The family members of Anita, who were disgusted by the nuisance of the mantrik did not pay heed to his words or keep any contact with him. However, the mantrik was hell-bent on forcing the family to commit suicide. So Anita approached the Hunsur police to register a complaint against the said mantrik but the police did not register any complaint and she was sent back.
Now Anita, who saw the news of the Delhi family suicide on television, has accused that in a similar fashion a mantrik is pestering them to end their lives to attain salvation.
As Anita is residing in Hunsur now, the Keragodu police station personnel are trying to contact her parents, who are residing in Maragowdanahalli and gather more information pertaining to this issue.
