Lack of women’s safety a social issue: Ravi Shankar Prasad

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI): IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said that issues related to women’s safety are a “social problem”, and said steps are being taken by the government.

Addressing an Indian Professionals Forum summit at Asia House in London, Prasad strongly refuted a recent survey by the Thomson Reuters Foundation that ranked India as the world’s most dangerous country for women, followed by Afghanistan and Syria.

He noted the report had spoken to just 200-300 women in India out of a population of an estimated 1.3 billion.

“Let us not single out any country. Any problem of women’s safety is unfortunate. It is a social problem...we have to work together to address these issues,” he said. “We have taken steps and in the case of rape, we changed the law to bring in capital punishment (in cases involving minors).”

What a joke Mr. Prasad!! When you're holding the law ministry, you're trying to put the blame on society. Without effective law, no society can control crimes. Please do not blame the society which existed for thousands of years. Do some work in the ministry to plug the loopholes in the legal system. Have you ever come across a survey that questioned every stakeholder of the society, even election survey is done same way, few people are questioned and didn't you glorified the election survey whenever it predicted BJP win??

If the Political leaders are talking like that, what more safety/security we can expect from the government. Some days back a BJP MLA was comparing the same in line with supernatural powers, saying even 'Lord Ram’ cannot control such epidemic call rape culture!
BJP still not fully recovered from Congress phobia.
From the recent 'Bail Gadi' comments from Mr. Modi, we can better understand what is disturbing him the most.
Modi Saab, thre are other critical & important social issues and do not waste time on useless comments to win the elections.

Prasadji, please remember that most of the time the crime committed on women are either by your party people or those linked to your party or in states ruled by your party!!!. Remember even people who are MP's, MLA's of your party have indulged in this and you have given tickets to such people too!!!. What have you done in this regard other than expressing concern!?
