3 accident victims die in Rajasthan as onlookers click selfies

Jaisalmer, Jul 11 (TOI): Three accident victims died in Barmer district on Tuesday even as onlookers kept clicking selfies and recording videos instead of helping the injured.

At around 2pm, a school bus hit a motorcycle being ridden by Parmanand (27), Gemaram (30) and Chandaram (30) near Chautahan. While Parmanand died on the spot, Gemaram and Chandaram lay on the road in a pool of blood for over half an hour. No one took them to hospital.

Chandaram kept pleading for help, but onlookers were busy clicking selfies and recording videos, said police sources.

When police finally arrived, it was too late.

Gemaram and Chandaram died on the way to hospital. Police said the deaths could have been prevented if medical assistance was provided on time.

The three men worked as labour contractors at a cement factory in Gujarat. They had come to Rajasthan to hire labourers and were to return to Gujarat after two days.

Gemraram is survived by his wife and two-year-old son while Chandaram left behind his parents, wife and a five-month-old daughter. Parmanand was unmarried, said police.
