Mangaluru: 159 shrill horn cases booked as part of traffic safety month

Mangaluru, Jul 11: As many as 159 cases on shrill horn were booked by Mangaluru city traffic police in view of traffic safety month on Tuesday, July 11.

As part of traffic safety month, awareness programmes were conducted by Mangaluru West police station at Gokarnanatha College and Badriya College.

South traffic rural police conducted awareness programme at Capitanio School on Tuesday.

City traffic police also conducted a drive on no-parking areas and locked over 40 vehicles, said DCP (Crime) Uma Prashanth.

    This is temperory drama ...later this police lady also will keep quiet..if all see clear there are lots of people not respecting traffic rules if all the traffic police take strict action in each and every mistakes. There will be less accidents and people will think lot before they do mistakes..it's true roads are not good.but public don't have mind in what speed they need to drive on those roads. mangloreans are always in rush while on road. Policemen are hiding themselves while on duty either under tree, inside shops or taking rest inside bus stop. they play active role only when politicians come down. How can things change if there is no proper rules.. And leader to punish the public for not following.. never blame government for everything lot of time public are responsible for everything.

    Police shouldn't be allowed to collect fine in cash. People should be allowed to make payment online or pay through credit card. Collecting cash promotes corruption.

    I am glad that The City Police have taken their work seriously with regard to shrill vehicle horns. D.C.P. Crime and Traffic Ms. Uma Prashanth has taken the job seriously. These regulations and checks should be carried out regularly until once for all the shrill horns are completely stopped. It is even better that the shrill horns are confiscated.

    I am presently in America and for the past two months I have not heard a single driver of any vehicle using horns of any kind.

    Olden days bus horns(Rubber Ball) is nice...whenever I used to get a chance( when driver was away for tea), I used to press it....really nice feeling...

    @Langoo Belman /Washington,you seems to be a naughty boy.Those days were quite different,less traffic less noice.Now more traffic,more speeding buses,modern in everyway.those signal horn is not enough.Have to be more loud and modern type.Unfortunately thats too acute, sound goes simply into ears.Best is like in foreign countrys without horn to drive.But in India it wont be possible because traffic self is loud.but can be done if one wants .Some horn it to show their good hornsound how nice it is.

    What gas got into you don't blabber like a drunk. IDV is insured declared value not depreciated value. Also your talking about the voltage get some knowledge first on basics .

    Great move by DCP Uma Prashanth and her team! I hope and pray this drive to protect the ear drums of people of Mangaluru is implemented beyond the traffic safety week and does not become an annual farce.
    Before booking the drivers for parking in no-parking zones, clear signs should be displayed. Some of the drivers had their vehicles locked (including a doctor) near Wenlock hospital for parking in no parking zones but there were no signboards displayed. Two hours later, the traffic department responds and collects a fine of Rs. 200 but issues a receipt for Rs. 100. One of the autorickshaw drivers had taken his wife for an emergency check up and since he had to be back to meet the surgeon at Wenlock paid the fine of Rs. 200 only to realize later that the receipt was for Rs. 100.

    Don't allow manufacturing of vehicular horns below voltage levels of 50V DC and above 65dB Sound level. Most of the buses and cars have voltages not more than 48 V and will not be able to use the devices.

    All should be by Laid Law:
    Traffic Rules and Regulations should be follwed 100%.
    Driving License issued only when the candidate has passed both:
    in actual road test and also the paper test now (computerized ).
    2/Emissions test: to stop pollution should be 100% mandatory.
    3/Old vehicles : not passing Emission test to be failed.
    4/All Traffic rules : like the Speed Limits
    Parking.
    5/Signaling/horn ..etc should be as per rules laid down..
    Any vehicle driver not abiding should pay fine//with BLACK POINTS/LICENSE REVOKED..
    PRISON SENTENCE including the owner of the vehicle.
    confiscation of the vehicle should be followed
    Only then the traffic could be controlled and lives saved.
    plus the Department can generate its own free standing revenue....for developt. and growth..
    Follow rules like in Japan: Nordic..UAE.

    It should be 10% of Insurance Depreciation Value (IDV). Else rich people will not mind paying 25k. IDV is the current value of car as shown in the insurance papers.

    Yes, she has done a good work. But everyone must appreciate. But this should not be only for the Traffic week purpose. The association president is attending every phone in programme. Simply attending the programme. He has not done any help to improve the behaviours of the drivers. Her afferts should not go in vain. Action must take against the association.

    Uma has done more than what any male inspector has done. She's a very hardworking woman and has sacrificed her time even off duty for Mangalore. She needs some kind of gratitude towards her selfless service on and off duty. I respect her a lot. Salute you Inspector Uma.

    Shrill horn cases should be booked and fined severally instead of wasting time. There are many important cases. .Also there are lot of drivers who drive rashly and on hard shoulder. They should be penalised and money should be used in for multi level car / bike parking. Making proper foot path and over bridge for pedestrians.
    Make use of short cut road from PVS to Kodialbail as one way for LMV, cars.

    I could point out hundred things that are unsafe related to traffic. When are those things going to be solved?

    They always do this where they book the buses using shrill horns. but what about other safety-related issues??? Like doors on the buses??

    This is news every couple of months! The buses immediately reinstall the horns as they are available as low as 50Rs!!!. Unless a solution is found to permanently remove these horns, this drive is useless!!!

    The cases of shrill horns must be dealt very seriously. Mangalore city is very good case of traffic indicipline and lawlessness on the roads.

    People honk at the slightest trigger of block and it has become a habit even when there is no reason for honking, people honk, putting pedestrians and other people at continuous misery. City bus horns are in fact invitation to fear, shock and sometimes even death. A willing traffic department can change this. Seizing horns sometimes may not help. What should be done is all city buses should be made to use hand horns not vacuum horns. Conductors should never be allowed to blow whistels but there should be rope bell as in the case of BEST buses in Bombay. This officer is capable of doing it.

    what is traffic week? can DCP explain? Is there good road to drive a vehicle after paying heavy road tax? Is there sage footpath where a citizen of this city can freely walk? Is there proper pedestrian crossing ?
    Respected DCP, please spend 30 valuable munites of your duty at Bendoorwell junction and you will forget there is traffic law in this city. people cannot cross the road. what is pedestrian crossing? if people are already on the crossing lable; still vehicles especially KSRTC uneducated drivers never apply break and allow the people to cross. this is common every where in mangalore.
    where is the parking for cars? MCC issues licence to construct shopping malls, commercial building on road sides, they must consult with traffic department and fire department about the parking and safety measures.
    locking the cars and fining 100 rupees is not the end for it, find solutions, and provide provisions then i salute traffic department. piling millions of challans and being happy is not legal smile respected DCP, console the public, make provisions or instead of locking the cars; please close the shops or malls or wedding halls. then it is fine.
    at last, if you cannot provide sufficient parking slots, please arrange to stop selling vehicles in mangalore city.

    Such exercises are conducted n number of times in the past. But result is zero. Bus owners are again come with new shrill horns. Unless nexus between private Bus Owners and RTO is broken, there is no relief and result for public. Quality of living is deteriorating day by day due to poor administrations particularly in the area of traffic control . Govt is only immersed in vote bank politics.
