Chikkamagaluru, Jul 18: If you visit Lakkavalli hobli in Tarikere taluk, do not be surprised to find ‘Narendra Modi’, ‘Amit Shah’ standing in the fields. They may seem lifelike, but are actually cut-outs installed by farmers to scare crows.
This year, after Chikkamagaluru district received heavy rainfall, the farmers have finished sowing. To protect the seeds from the birds, they are innovatively using the cut-outs of politicians which were used for campaigns in poll-bound Karnataka just two months back.
“Most of the campaign material, which has now been discarded such as cut-outs, buntings, wooden sticks are used by farmers for various purposes,” says Tarikere resident Rajesh Matapati.
However, Lakkavalli gram panchayat president T N Shivakiran claims to have not come across any such cut-outs being used as scarecrow.
