Mangaluru, Jul 19: A six-member gang which entered the cattle shed belonging to Purushotham from Moodushedde near here threatened family members by brandishing their swords. The gang succeeded in taking away two milking jersey cows.
Value of the cows so stolen has been estimated at Rs 45,000.
The miscreants arrived at the cattle shed at about 3 am on Tuesday July 17. When the family members woke up at the sound made by the animals and went to check, the miscreants threatened them by pointing the swords they possessed with them. They also killed the dog of the family and created an environment of terror. They took away the two cows forcefully. The family members said that all the gang members were aged between 25 and 30.
A total of 21 cows have been stolen so far from the area since sometime. The locals have sought protection from the police. Police officials visited the spot and conducted scrutiny. A case about this theft was registered in Kavoor police station.
MLA, Umanath Kotian, visited the spot. He urged the police to nab the cattle thieves and book them under the Goonda Act.
