Rahul showed his incapability to hold any public office: BJP

New Delhi, Jul 21 (IANS): The BJP on Saturday slammed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the no-confidence motion in Parliament, saying that he has once again showed his incapability to hold any public office.

"Even a beginner in politics, but Rahul Gandhi being what he is... I think he has demonstrated is ineligibility and incapability to really hold any public office," BJP leader G.V.L. Narsimha Rao told media here.

"Gandhi has showcased to the country that he is immature to the task, he is not capable of leading the party. He lacks the seriousness and the kind of responsibility that comes with the political office," he said.

He also said that the no-confidence motion showed that how "fractured" the so-called grand opposition is, terming opposition unity "the number one casualty" of the no confidence motion.

"It showed how fractured the so called grand opposition is. We have seen some opposition parties abstaining from the house, we have seen opposition parties going against the so called grand alliance and only a few political parties stuck together... possibly this is the widest victory in the no confidence vote of over nearly 200 votes won by the government," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.

He also said that this is only a trailer, what the people of the country have seen yesterday on the floor of the Parliament is what will happen in 2019 and beyond.

"The Prime Minister said that Rahul Gandhi and Congress, always uncomfortable to sit in the opposition, will have to be prepared to move yet another no confidence motion in 2024 and that's our statement that reflects the real situation on the ground.

"And how this united how completely issueless the opposition is completely united in the hatred against the BJP but even that could not combine them together yesterday," he said.

He also slammed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for bringing the no confidence motion in Lok Sabha.

"Another casaulty of no-confidence vote was the TDP.. the prime mover of the no confidence motion. The TDP simply failed to tell the members of the House and the people of the country as to why they even failed to unite even the neighbouring state," he said, alleging that the no confidence motion also created fissures within the Telugu brotherhood of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

After all the bashing, the hug and wink was not called for. It was really comical & disgraceful. The nation needs a quality opposition who can raise the right issues, which help Govt rectify their mistakes. It ideally should be like the testing team in a ' Software Department'. Once gain RaGa has proved that he does not have the quality sence.

It was a very matured gesture from Rahul Gandhi. He proved that he is the real people's person while you and your gang only strangle and kill people, rape women and children and then murder them.

though Modi Government won the confidence vote, which was a foregone conclusion, it was Rahul Gandhi who stole the thunder. First with his fiery speech, then his now historical hug of the Prime Minister and the lighter moment of winking at his friend—all submerged the Prime Minister’s speech into background. Even those who do not like Modi admit his communicative skills. But yesterday even his lovers had hard time believing how pathetic he was in his speech. Nervousness was clearly visible. Not unsure of himself, he started reading the “facts” like a bureaucrat in a formal meeting.

While a few months back, he had challenged Rahul to deliver a 15 minute speech without the help of a paper, what the country witnessed yesterday was the opposite. Rahul Gandhi spoke for about 40 minutes, did not look at the paper and was at his best in terms of content as well as style. On the other hand, except for a few minutes, Modi was reading the paper. I expected that Modi would humble Rahul in a dignified, smart way by promising him that while he would not spare him in politics he would always give him his Ashirwad whenever he would seek it outside Parliament. Instead, he indulged in jibes and his old rhetoric against the Gandhi family. Ahankar was his answer to pyaar.
The stage is set for a keen tussle between Modi and Opposition. The Friday Lok Sabha show was the beginning of the titanic clash of the two figures; Rahul and Modi. Hopefully the clash will remain largely peaceful. For his part, Rahul will be better advised to counter the communal card with an onslaught on the economic front and a full-fledged war against Economic Inequality.
