Bengaluru, Jul 27: Karnataka governor, Vajubhai Vala, expressed the opinion that wrong policies and decisions of the first Prime Minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, were responsible for the creation of Kashmir problem, which has aggravated over the years into a major issue of confrontation between the two countries.
Speaking at the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' programme aimed at paying tributes to brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives fighting for the country during Kargil war and to pay respects to them on Thursday July 26 at R V Teachers College here, Vala said that no country will ever face misery if the chief administrator is brave and valiant.
"After the partition of India, both constitutionally and legally, the entire Kashmir belongs to India. But our neighbouring country, Pakistan, occupied major part of Kashmir territory. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel had declared war against Pakistan and had occupied three fourths of the territory, but Nehru, in contravention of Patel's advice, declared truce. This in effect, resulted in reverses for India," he stated.
"Like we celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas, there should be an occasion in future in which we would be able to celebrate 'Kashmir Vijay Diwas', and every Indian should inculcate this strong desire in their hearts. Only then will the greatness and eminence of the country will reach their zenith," he stated.
