Rail traffic restored on old Yamuna bridge

New Delhi, Jul 30 (IANS): Train traffic was on Monday restored on the old Yamuna bridge after being suspended since Sunday night due to the rising level of the river, officials said.

"The rail traffic has been restored as it is safe enough for passage of trains," Northern Railway spokesperson Nitin Chowdhury told IANS. The traffic was restored around 11 a.m.

He said engineers were continuously monitoring the health of the bridge.

Earlier in the day, the railways cancelled 27 passenger trains, diverted 14 Express trains and terminated three due to the closure of the Yamuna bridge.

On Sunday evening, Delhi Police ordered the closure of the bridge after the Yamuna water level reached 205.52 metres.
