New Delhi, Jul 31 (IANS): The Rajya Sabha was on Tuesday adjourned for an hour, till 12 p.m., minutes after it met.
As soon as the House convened, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien raised the issue of National Register of Citizens of India (NRC) of Assam that excludes over 40 lakh names.
The issue had caused repeated adjournments on Monday, too.
Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh would give a statement on the issue in the upper House.
However, as the members persisted, Naidu adjourned the House till 12 noon.
Earlier, before the proceedings commenced, members of Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Telugu Desam Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Janata Dal-Secular among others staged protests in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament House premises against the Assam NRC.
