Kashmir family to get militant's body month after shootout

Srinagar, Jul 31 (IANS): Parents of a slain Kashmiri militant are expected to receive his body on Tuesday, more than a month after he was killed in a shootout in Kupwara, police said.

The slain militant was buried in Trehgam area of Kupwara as security forces failed to establish his identity.

However days later, a Srinagar family claimed that the militant killed in Kupwara on June 29 was their son Mudasir Ahmad Bhat.

The father, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat of Srinagar's Barzulla area, approached the district magistrate Kupwara for DNA matching of the dead militant.

He had recognized his son's photograph in Kralpora police station of the north Kashmir Kupwara.

"The sampling report confirmed that the DNA of the slain militant matched with that of his father. Now, the district magistrate has ordered that the mortal remains be handed over to the family (on Tuesday) after exhumation," police said.
