Jharkhand to cancel licence of 7 children's homes run by Missionaries of Charity

Ranchi, Aug 14 (IANS): The Jharkhand government will cancel the licence of seven children's homes run by Missionaries of Charity in Ranchi, said an official on Tuesday.

"The Social Welfare Department has accepted a proposal of the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner recommending cancellation of the licence of seven children's homes run by Missionaries of Charity," an official of the Social Welfare Department told IANS.

"A notification is likely to be issued after Independence Day," said the official.

The Ranchi DC had ordered a probe into the children's homes run by Missionaries of Charity. The district officials inspected the homes and recommended action as these homes did not follow the norms, the official said.

Two other institutions, Asha Sansthan and Kishori Niketan, have been given three months to improve their functioning.

"Of the seven children's homes, one had no building, another was not following the guidelines prescribed under the Juvenile Justice Act. The third home kept 43 children in two rooms and the address of another was found wrong. The fifth home's licence expired, while some discrepancies were detected in other two homes," said the official.

The Missionaries of Charity came under the scanner after a controversy erupted in June over "selling" of four babies. A sister and an employee of the Missionaries of Charity were arrested on charges of selling the newborns to a childless couple.

Ranchi Arch Bishop Felisk Toppo in a statement two days ago had alleged that the state had adopted repressive measures against the Missionaries in the name of investigating the NGOs. The state CID is investigating the funding of 88 NGOs.

The state BJP has rejected the Arch Bishop's charges. "The investigation is going on at the directive of the the Union Home Ministry. The Missionaries should cooperate in the probe," said Pratul Sahdero, Jharkhand BJP spokesperson.

The Bishops Conference of India and lay bodies like All India Catholic Union should launch competitions to suggest substitute names for “Missionaries” and other foreign-sounding names for religious organisations in the spirit of indigenisation and inculturation. This will enhance the public image and acceptance of Christians in India.
I invite and urge readers to respond to this, including suggesting indigenous names.

In any convent school less than 50% are Christians while rest of the students are brahmins, GSB ....lol

The horror at the Bhopal hostel, which came close on the heels of similar revelations at girls’ shelter homes in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) and Deoria (Uttar Pradesh), was unraveled after a hearing and speech impaired 20-year-old girl filed a complaint.

Ashwini Sharma was arrested on Wednesday night under various criminal charges including rape, intimidation, wrongful confinement and a law to prevent atrocities against Dalits. The director of a private hostel who was arrested last week for raping and torturing hearing and speech impaired women is activist of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and close to leaders of its political front BJP.
Do shelter home run by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has special privilege in India who make dumb women looking for therapy made to watch porn films and was raped for six months?

Is Jharkhand is in India and Madhya Pradesh is autonomous region?

First it is Kandhamal in Odisha, then in Gujarat by Swami Aseemanand and now in Jharkhand Christians are Systematically attacked after Muslims and Dalits of India. United Christian Forum (UCF) also recorded 216 incidents of attacks against Christians in 2017, including violence against priests, nuns, and shrines. UCF jointly with Alliance Defending Freedom India documented at least 351 cases of violence in 2017 only.

It is time for Christians of India to be awake and address this issue at International missions just like they did after Church attacks in India.

At a point of time there was a slogan by RSS combine, Pehle Kasai Phir Isai (First the Muslims then the Christians). It seems the vision of Hindu Rashtra is already began. After Muslims and Dalits, Christians are become new Muslims of India.

It's a good move by the government, let the missionaries close down and let all the children be left on the road than some goonda leaders will pick the children and drop them to a shelter home to be raped as happened in Bihar, I, really can't understand why these sisters are taking this humiliation just leave and go to a country where you and your charity work will be accepted and will be loved by every one these people don't deserve your good work, hundred of children are from the majority religion, so sisters please don't get humiliated, God bless your good work.

When the nuns are doing charitable works, why should it be just in India ? Its time to shut homes in the country and head to Africa, Afghanistan, Philippines, Cambodia, Latin America or even Myanmar.

We are not seeking asylum, we are going there legally to work for the poor. Yes, sisters, do not sustain the humiliation the government is meting you with for the service you have rendered, please go to places were you can serve the poor and get reciprocated with love.

When all government run shelters do exactly what has been recently reported, it will be too late - missionaries may have already left by then.

This is nothing but a witch hunt against Minorities. These are not foreign missionaries but dedicated indians in the cause of the poorest of the poor. It is when the Govt fails that such institutions come to the rescue of Humanity.

    Rathan,

We don't need these homes at all, instead, the government (Yes, since the times of Congress) has made it voluntary for a common man to take up charitable works and submit the amount sustained while he files his taxes. You are free do it through Schedule A of Form 1040. Tell me - how many times you have done it ?

You have been passing the buck at charitable institutions without your knowledge. Now, don't blame the government.

Unfortunately in our Country, most of the people are very good in gossiping and talking ill of good things done by others and for vendetta, the government will take revenge even at the cost of innocent children. Now, these officials including government run shelter homes, can they give the same security for orphan girls as run by missionary nuns. Definitely no.
Rapes run by shelter homes are tolerant to BJP government and this is typical to their slogan, ' beti bachavo".
