Mumbai, Aug 19: A blood donation drive was organized at Bunts Center, Juinagar on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day on August 15. The blood donation drive was organized by the Bombay Bunts Association youth wing supported by Bombay Bunts Association Bunts Institute of Higher Education and conducted by Apollo Hospitals, Navi
Mumbai. All the medical support was arranged by the Blood Bank of Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai.
The event was inaugurated by president of Bombay Bunts Association advocate Subhash Shetty in the presence of committee members, Nilesh Kadam, emergency team Apollo Hospitals, Chetan Gosavi, Blood Bank team Apollo Hospitals, Dr Puneet Jain, Blood Bank officer, Apollo Hospitals, youth wing and ladies wing members, students and staff of Bombay Bunts Association Bunts Institute of Higher Education.
The event began at 10:00 am after the flag hoisting ceremony. Right from the beginning, a number of enthusiastic volunteers came forward for participating in the noble cause and donate their blood. The activity of blood donation was started by students and staff of Bombay Bunts Association Bunts Institute of Higher Education thereafter youth wing members and other donors joined the event. Before allowing the donors for blood donation, a mandatory medical test was performed to check their various health parameters, like body weight, blood pressure, blood sugar etc so that the donor may not face any kind of problem due to blood donation. In order to provide maximum care to the health of the donors, organisers had made arrangement for an ample supply of breakfast, lunch tea, and coffee throughout the duration of the camp.
There was an overwhelming response from students, staff, youth wing and other donors. A total of 69 units were collected in the camp. Some of the donors who could not donate this time were assured for donation in the next camp. A certificate of appreciation, donation card, freebies, refreshment was given to each donor as a token of gratitude.
The community came together to participate with great enthusiasm and deepened social awareness among them. Throughout the morning, there were smiles and laughter all around, a true embodiment of what they believe, in selfless service with a smile.
On the eve of International Youth Day, Bombay Bunts Association youth wing had organized a BLS (Basic Life support) session and How to act in Life-threatening Emergencies for students and staff of Bombay Bunts Association Bunts Institute of Higher Education at Bunts Center, Juinagar on August 11. This session was conducted by Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai emergency team consisting of Nilesh Kadam, Dr Anuprita Harne, and team.
In line with the many activities undertaken in the past by the youth wing, they are determined to organize many outreach social awareness and cultural programmes for the youth of Bunt community, as these programmes bring about some positives, one of which is raising awareness amongst the youth through such events.
