Mumbai, Aug 20(TNN): A manager with a garment trading firm, who had fled with the company's documents, including income tax and GST papers, has been arrested in Surat. The LT Marg police with the help of the crime branch unit 2 have arrested Ashok Ranjitmal Purohit (40) who was on the run for the past year.
The complainant in the case is garment trader Chagganraj Purohit who runs Rashi Impex which has its office at Kalbadevi in South Mumbai. According to the police, Chagganraj engaged Ashok as sales manager in 2016.
In April, Ashok came under the scanner after the company got an audit conducted by a private firm where Rs 1.08 crore worth goods were detected missing. When questioned, Ashok told his employer the chartered accountant might have erred and said he himself would re-audit the books. "Under the pretext of re-auditing, he took away all the relevant documents, including sales invoices, Income Tax as well Goods Service and Tax (GST) papers.
He switched off his cellphone and didn't return," said an officer of LT Marg police. When the accused learnt the company had lodged a complaint against him, he started calling up Chagganraj and threatening him with dire consequences.
