Viral now: Sitharaman spars with Kodagu district in-charge minister Mahesh

Kodagu, Aug 24 (IANS): On a visit to the flood-affected areas in the district, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday sparred with Karnataka district-in-charge minister Sa Ra Mahesh after he asked her to end a press conference they were jointly addressing.

The episode took place after Mahesh asked Sitharaman to end the press conference citing lack of time and she retorted saying that she was following "minute-by-minute" the itinerary prepared by the district administration and she cannot be blamed for the delay.

"And the mic is on na... so record whatever you want," she is heard telling the media.

Sitharaman then asked a woman official to stop speaking and said "let the in-charge minister speak".

"Minute to minute programme, Minister... I am following that and if officials were important then my family is also very important. A central minister is following the minister in-charge. Unbelievable," she said.

"You have the list of minute to minute to follow. If you had difference of opinion then you should have sorted this out before and not put me in an embarassing moment. I am doing as per your schedule," she is heard saying.

    Replying to Surendra Poojari ......

I have not said anything abusive to Ms Reshmi Salian that I should apologise for.

Your comments are generally irrelevant to my message. My message was not in support of Dr Kamath's here or elsewhere. Ms Reshmi expected better comments from an educated person. Fair enough. But she went further.
You may not find anything wrong in calling someone Dumb Bhakth. I disagree.
I am hoping for some decency in debate. All this name calling Chaddis, Congis, Feku, Pappu is pointless. Something said in humour is fine but not when it is to be abusive.

Reshmi Salian, Mangalore, you speak about the arrogance of this useless defense minister. Without slightest doubt she is unfit to be the defense minister of India. She is more interested in defending her party. You are referring to so called doctor and call him educated? Rest assured, education has not liberated him from his sickness, arrogance and ignorance. He is communally inflicted and is beyond recovery, the way he comments is consistent. No prognosis in sight. Sad.

While Nirmala Sitharaman is famous for her arrogance apart from the shady Rafale Deal, Sa Ra Mahesh is a small-time MLA turned ‘self..err..samaja-savae’ minister-of-opportunist party. The party hopping, Mysore politician had earlier openly admitted to media that he distributed huge amount of black money during last elections, incidentally has a son who is noted for beating up poor people in his consistency.

Regretfully & tragically, helpless folks in Kodagu and Sullia districts are struggling to survive amidst total ruins, politicians take advantage for selfish gains while the superstitious, billionaire-mannina maga CM is on another star pilgrimage with family at state expense, as dictated by his astrologer!

    Both ministers are at fault.

Sitharaman took the opportunity to do lip service.

District in charge has done worst by not providing estimates of losses, list of financial and other demands, a comprehensive plan that should have been submitted to Sitharaman using protocol to speed up the matter.

He was only emphasizing ' Modi sanctioned funds to Kerala, without any estimates being submitted to him", and was expecting the same treatment, without putting any effort on his part.

Clearly shows, local minister lacks vision and organizational skills, not to mention his inability to take all stake holders in confidence in order to achieve the primary goal of reconstructing Kodagu.

Arrogance of the powerful is at its best disposal. She puts on face which gives impression that she is a sad, disappointed and yet showy person from within. I have never seen her smiling. As per her saying, for her family is also important, that's perfectly fine. But the she should stay with the family alone. She cannot crave for high position and not ready to put anything t stake, that can happen only if India were her ancestral kingdom.

When a natural disaster has happened and people are suffering, it is very disheartening to note that the ministers and people's representatives behave in this way in public.

They are unable to manage their programme and fight in public.

Minister Nirmala Sitaraman should keep disaster relief as a priority and if there was any breach of protocol, she should handle it internally and not in public.

"A central minister is following the minister in-charge. Unbelievable," Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Under India's federal structure, fully enshrined in the constitution and supported by the laws, the Central Government is never a superor to the states.

A state Government is actually superor to the Central Government on many matters. Hence, within a state, a Central minister NEEDS to follow a state minister - UNLESS the particular domain is specifically assigned to the Centra Government (such as Defence and External Affairs).

But the new kids on the block, BJP, do not seem to have grasped this.

So, Ganesha, it's your turn to apologise and not Reshmi. Coming back to defence minister....She is not fit to be a minister. Can't handle defence and showing her anger in Karnataka. She is a beggar who got elected to Rajya sabha from Karnataka. Why she did not get elected from her state?
