Mangaluru, Aug 25: Even as people from Kodagu and coastal districts are trying to recoup themselves from the effects of floods, the state meteorological department has predicted torrential rainfall in Karnataka coast for three days. At the same time, rainfall resumed in Dakshina Kannada district since Friday evening.

The department said that there is possibility of creation of low pressure area in the atmosphere in the Bay of Bengal on August 26 and therefore has predicted heavy rainfall for three days from August 25 onward in the state's coast. The fishermen have accordingly been warned.

The work of clearing obstacles on the highway at Jodupala on the border of Sullia taluk is going on in full swing. From Saturday onward, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation would be running buses from Sullia to Jodupala. The buses will make 11 trips to Jodupala from Sullia everyday. Additional bus services to Madikeri from Sullia via Karike and Bhagamandala have been started. Puttur KSRTC divisional controller, Nagaraj Shirali, said that five mini buses are now moving on this route. At the same time, the state government has sought a detailed report from the national highways authority of India about the preparedness of the highway at Shiradi Ghat for the resumption of traffic.

The rain, which had subsided since the last three days, attained momentum on Friday. This appears to be the prelude for the heavy rain on the offing.

At Jodupala, the work of repairs and restoration of the highway has been undertaken in full swing under police protection but the highway officials have said that if the rainfall resumes, the works will suffer.

At the same time, water level in Netravati and Kumaradhara rivers at Uppinangady stands at 20 metres while the level of Netravati river at Thumbe stands at 6.2 metres.
