Belagavi: Brothers gift 2,400 toilets to sisters for Raksha Bandhan

Daijiworld Media Network - Belagavi (MS)

Belagavi, Aug 27: In a rare and meaningful celebration of the festival of 'Raksha Bandhan', men who got the rakhi tied by the womenfolk gifted them toilets. This incident is reported from various parts of the district on Sunday, August 26.

Personal toilets were handed over to the beneficiaries by the zilla panchayat under the Swachh Bharath Mission. Last year, there was a good response to a programme of similar nature that was intended to reduce open-defecation. Hence, 2,400 personal toilets were built this year and handed over by the administration to the women through their Rakhi brothers as a gift on the day of Raksha Bandhan.

R Ramachandran, CEO of zilla panchayat said that the wide response given by the public has made him happy.

Please make sure there is 24 hrs water supply, electricity and maintenance/cleanliness of these huge number of toilets. We expect whenever new development takes place it should run without maintaining it. It becomes orphan from the day it's installed. Pathetic.
