Bengaluru, Aug 29: Senior Congress leader and former minister Baburao Chinchansur joined BJP along with his wife in the presence of BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa here on Wednesday, August 29.

The sudden switch over from Congress to BJP by Chinchansur, who is a former MLA of Gurmitkal, is likely to affect the Congress in the upcoming local body and Lok Sabha elections especially in Hyderabad- Karnataka region.

Speaking to reporters after quitting Congress, Chinchansur said, "My own party members defeated me in the Assembly elections fearing that I would be a powerful minister if I had won. Hence I was saddened by the activities within the Congress and I decided to join the BJP."

Chinchansur was defeated by JD(S) candidate Naganagowda Kandkur in the recent Assembly elections by a margin of around 25,000 votes.
