Dubai: Mangalore Konkans to Host Second Edition of Gulf Voice of Mangalore

Dubai: Mangalore Konkans to Host Second Edition of Gulf Voice of Mangalore

Daijiworld Media Network – Dubai (GA)

Dubai, Oct 22: The mega success of first-ever Konkani reality show 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' hosted by Youth Recreation Centre has created new stars in the Konkani singing world and opened-up the gate for many new-comers. The trend is going to stay here for long, as Mangalore Konkans Dubai, leading community organization around gulf has taken initiative to host second 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' in Dubai in the year 2010.

The show will be conducted once in two years, and next year there will be Konkani albums and musical shows by the winners and 10 finalists around Gulf and Mangalore.

Reliable sources informed Daijiworld that next Gulf Voice of Mangalore might be held in two separate groups, that is, male and female, and there will be winner from each group. However, a final draft in this regard and a final decision is yet to be made in this regard.

The recent successful GVM has not only created stars but has also brought people from different region together.

Valerian Peris, main coordinator of Gulf Voice of Mangalore UAE chapter has following experience to share with the readers:

"As I just sit back and relax thinking about the events gone through last few days, I feel a great deal of satisfaction. It was like get read, set and go. When it started I am sure no one would have thought the magnitude of this event.  It not only attracted the interest of Gulf people but also involvement and attention of people world-wide. Last month, around the same time, I was busy in giving final touches to the arrangements for a grand semifinals in Dubai (UAE level) speaking to Leslie Rego, Louis Rodrigues at regular intervals. Today I am satisfied man, happy with the way things have gone. Although the event just concluded, I just want to recall a few things that need to be praised and complemented.”

The Organizers:

Here I would commend the total involvement, support, guidance of two persons, especially from the Youth Recreation Centre Kuwait. They are none other than Louis Rodrigues and Lawrence Pinto. It is because of them this event was held and successfully completed at all levels. Both this gentlemen with their personal intervention worked out each and every aspect of this mega project right from the beginning, each one complimenting the other in their responsibilities. And the results are in front of us. Everything went on well and people around the globe have appreciated and lauded their role. I am sure both of them would have had restless days and sleepless nights few days before the start of semifinals.  I personally will vouch for this because everyday I used to get at least one call regarding the arrangements.  While Lawrence Pinto was busy in accompanying the visiting artistes and musicians to all Semifinals venues, Louis Rodrigues was very busy in arranging hotel accommodation, visa etc to the competitors, their family members and guests like myself.  Every little thing right from the accommodation, visa, transport, food was taken care of. If at all the visitors for this programme have gone back happy, it is owing to the efforts of Louis and Lawrence. We Mangalore Konkan members and their families express our sincere thanks and gratitude to these gentlemen.

The Programme:

The arrangements made by the organizers for the grand finals were the best of the bests. A beautiful auditorium-type hall (fully packed with 1400 plus spectators) and a grand opening right on dot 4.30 pm as announced was clear indication of the things to follow. Spectators who were glued to their chairs for almost 6 hrs had witnessed a good, entertaining show comprising of songs from competitors, visiting artists, skits and dances. Although it was a bit lengthy programme, people did not feel much exhausted. The final judgment delivered by the adjudicators (Wilfy Remimbus, Melwin Peris and Joel Pereira) was the perfect finish as most of the spectators expected.  Wilfy and his visiting troupe rendered some excellent songs to the satisfaction of every one. The compare Leslie Rego was too good, with a style-filled beginning with a bang, witty remarks, and hilarious jokes as he entertained every one.

Conclusion:

All of us who went from Dubai to witness the grand finals returned happily. We owe our thanks and gratitude to the organizers (YRC-Kuwait) and especially to Lawrence and Louis. They looked after us well, right from the day we arrived till we left Kuwait.  The event was successful only because of them. We also commend the involvement of and media coverage of Daijiworld.

Mangalore Konkans president and members feel proud that we were part of this historic event. We would like to congratulate Vinay Lewis, Donald Correa and Roshan D’Souza, the champions the GVM. Our motto is promoting Konkani language and culture for which we have worked since last twenty years in this part of the world. As we (members of Mangalore Konkani Dubai) sit back and recall our 20 years of service to our Mai Bhaas and Mai Guan, we thank God for giving us the grace to serve people.

2010 is painfully far away. 2 years is a long gap. Why not every year ? There are a lot of new Konkani talents to be discovered.

Dear Mr. Peris, Those were some very wonderful words from your end. This GVM initiative from Mr. Lawrence Pinto and Mr. Louis Rodrigues united the entire Mangalorean Konkani community worldwide ... when it was required the most! The maiden GVM event created a whole new euphoria among the Konkani speaking community! Thanks to an important task assigned to me by Mr. Walter Nandalike, I got a chance to sit right below the stage and report the event 'live' to lakhs of people around the world! The atmosphere was a total unforgettable one!!! The continuous beeps of Mr. Nandlike's mobile just showed ... it was not just 1,400 people in the house, but probably 1,40,000 or more peeople glued to the mega event.

The next GVM event being set for 2010 and having a some decent time at hand, I'm sure Mangalore Konkans will re-write the history of Konkani music. As Kiran Gonsalves rightly said ... a stage had already come where non-Konkani speakers had to sing Konkani songs! GVM has turned that around!!! All the very best Mangalore Konkans! Hope you see you in Dubai in 2010!!! Long live our Mai Bhas ... Long live our Mai Gaun! Mah

Dear Mr. Peris, This is indeed a great step in recognizing the new talents of mangalorean singers who do not get any exposure. This is why now a days many of the konkanni songs are sung by Non-Mangalorean or non-konkanni speaking singers..!!! Why is it happening?

I applaud on your new step in making 2 separate categories for Men and women. This competition should more likely be a 'Filmfare award' (ex:best acor & best actress) than 'Indian Idol' where only one is the winner. I also suggest to include the follwing categories in order to support and encourage the finalists/semi-finalists.

      1. Most melodious voice of the competition (male/female).

      2. The best performer on stage

      3. Most talented singer..etc. Kiran Gonsalves Kuwait
