Udupi, Sep1: In a macabre accident which happened at Sultanate of Oman, a person from here lost his life. The accident had happened on August 20 but the information came late.

The person who was killed in this accident was Prashanth Nayak (40), from near Laxmi Venkatesh Temple at Puttur near here.

The accident happened when two cars collided with each other and huge fire instantly broke out. Prashanth Nayak, Ankush Sharma, Sushil Rukhayyar, and Gaurav Sharma from Jaipur, who were in one of the cars, and two persons in the other car lost their lives.

Prashanth had earlier worked in Dubai and Muscat. To spend three days Bakrid holiday, he had visited Oman along with friends. The fire had completely charred his body. The identity of the mortal remains was confirmed by matching DNA with that of Prashanth's brother, Jagadeesh Nayak, who works in Muscat.

All legal processes were completed by August 31, and the mortal remains will reach the residence of Prashanth Nayak's relatives at Mangaluru either on Monday or Tuesday, sources stated.

The family had approached local MLA Raghupati Bhat and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj seeking help in completing process early.
