Mangaluru, Sep 1: A video clip in which a taxi driver is seen blocking the way of an ambulance without allowing it to overtake his car for about ten kilometers had become viral earlier on social media. The ambulance was ferrying a patient to Mangaluru.
The driver of the car is identified as Dinesh Prabhu who hails from Mangaluru, and was returning from Bengaluru after dropping a passenger. However, his version differs from what is seen in the video.
Speaking to daijiworld.com Dinesh Prabhu said, "When I reached near Vagga, I noticed an ambulance right in front of my car moving without any siren. Roads near Vagga are in pathetic condition and are riddled with potholes, due to which ambulance had to slow down. During this time, I overtook the ambulance as the right side was clear to overtake. After moving few meters the ambulance driver switched on the siren and started honking repeatedly,"
“I even gave signal thrice for ambulance driver so that ambulance could overtake my car. But he did not overtake. The ambulance driver had enough opportunity to overtake my car. Instead of overtaking, they were recording the scene. This video has been done intentionally,” he added
“I am deeply hurt that the video has become viral. We always make way for ambulance. We respect the patient in the ambulance like how we respect our family members,” Prabhu said.
The video making rounds on social media has shocked many people, who have criticized the driver for his attitude.
According to the ambulance driver, they were in a hurry to reach Mangaluru as they were ferrying a patient and had to struggle to move freely.
