Chidambaram slams Modi; seeks details of bad loans under NDA

New Delhi, Sep 2(PTI): Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks on loans given during the UPA rule, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday asked the NDA government to reveal the number of loans given by it which turned into non-performing assets (NPA).

In a series of tweets, the senior Congress leader also questioned why the present dispensation did not recall those loans, given by the previous government, which turned bad.

"How many loans and how much that were given after May 2014 have become non-performing assets?" he said. Chidambaram said this question was asked in Parliament but there was no answer so far.

The Modi government had assumed charge in May 2014.

Addressing an event, the Prime Minister on Saturday blamed the Congress-led UPA government for NPAs, saying action has been initiated against 12 large defaulters with a debt of nearly Rs 1.75 crore, who were given loans before 2014.

Modi said work has been on to recover around Rs 1 lakh crore from another 27 large loan accounts. Chidambaram said even if it was assumed that the Prime Minister was right when he said that loans given under the UPA have turned bad, how many of those loans were renewed or rolled over (that is 'evergreened') under the present NDA government? "Why were those loans not recalled? Why were those loans evergreened?" he asked.

Dear Chidambaram, don't get too excited about what Modiji says!. We know him since 20 years and 4years 3 months as PM!. I don't know when he has spoken truth or his government's achievements!.

He only relies on lies and blaming every one before him!!!. He is hero to bakhts in India and elsewhere! But zero on world stage!. World leaders see a opportunity to milk India through Modiji! That's why they behave friendly with him!. Rafale deal is one prime example!. Modiji says it's 20% cheaper than UPA deal but orders only 36 aircraft at prices near equivalent to UPA order of 126 aircraft!......!!!

    Mr. India,
Who gave the loan ? what a joke !
Why to blame each and everything from the source or from where it is originated.
Every thing runs on a process or a system to start with and the process continues. The governments may change that doest not mean that new government should break the contracts/ loan agreements signed under the previous government or administration. Entire worlds systems run on principles and on the rules and regulations of governing body at the time of implimentation.

Why 56" doesn't hold any press conferences?
If same continues for remaining months then he will be the first Prime Minister of a democratic country who has avoided meeting the media at a large televised gathering.
