Police chief killed in Afghan bomb attack


Kabul, Sep 5 (IANS): A district police chief was killed following a bomb attack by the Taliban in Afghanistan's Badghis province, police said on Wednesday.

"Ismail Khan Shukori, police chief of Muqur district, along with a police constable, was killed following a roadside bomb blast in his vehicle in Miranzayee area late on Tuesday," Xinhua news agency quoted a police spokesman as saying.

Shukori was inspecting security checkpoints before the blast in the province, which has been the scene of clashes between security forces and Taliban militants.

On Tuesday, two police officers and 11 militants were killed and four police and 16 militants wounded in fierce clashes after the Taliban attacked a security checkpoint in Badghis.
