Mangalore, Oct 25: CPI (M) politburo member K Varadarajan said here on Friday October 24, that India is involved in a second freedom struggle; this time against American imperialism. It is the duty of every citizen of this country to join hands with the party in this effort, he added.

He was addressing activists at a protest against the Indo-US joint naval exercise, on the beach near Rani Abbakka Circle, at Ullal. Varadarajan said that the UPA government is acting in the interests of America and not the welfare of the people of this country. ‘This protest is not a struggle between the Congress and the CPI (M). It is to save this country from the clutches of so-called capitalist countries. We know that we are not going to win this struggle alone. Therefore, the party appeals to patriots to join the struggle,’ he added.

Expressing concern over the Free Trade Agreement, Varadarajan said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had already agreed to the 17 conditions of the agreement without considering the opinion of other parties. It has not been discussed in Parliament. GATT, WTO, FTA, and other such agreements with capitalist countries could prove a catastrophic to the working class in this nation, he cautioned.

‘The CPI (M) supported the non-aligned movement (NAM) under Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. We were not with socialist Soviet Union when they were at war with capitalist America. We are the preachers of peace. Therefore, communists of this country supported NAM. It clearly indicates that this struggle is not individual-centric,’ he added.

Former MLA Sri Ram Reddy said that the ‘Malabar Exercise’ has questioned the very existence of India. The government has no control over the defence system, economic system, agriculture sector, or other sectors in the nation, he said.

According to article 104 of America’s Hyde Act, they can establish its vessels anywhere in the world. ‘Rani Abbakka has struggled against the Portuguese at this place. Today, we have protested at the right place against capitalism,’ said Reddy.  CPI(M) leaders VJK Nair, K Nila, G N Nagaraj, and others also spoke.

Patrick D'Souza, Mangalore I fully agree with you. These retrogressive parties want India subservient to China. These are modern traitors in the grabs of well wishers of poor. Unless and untill we kick them where it hurts more, you find these people playing politics with our sovereignity and territorial integrity of our county. They want to take our country 50 years backwards.

A dying party with no issues of National importance. Wasting time of the people assembled and creating traffic jams and problems to commuters. Instead of changing and taking a step forward, they want the Nation to take a step Backward.

Communism is a history and it is already dead. Russia and China are embrasing capitalism but in India a few old folks are still beating the dead horse. Couple of decades back, US wanted to take its manufacturing jobs to India but took them to China because of rampat strikes and bundhs by the labour unions in India. China took this opportunity, grabed all the manufacturing jobs and become the third largest economy in the world today. What is wrong in conducting joint military exercise? After all, India has most of its war weapons from USA. Didn't we approach USA to intervene when China and Pakistan attacked India in the past? Comrades, please stop the hypocrisy.

Mr.Varadarajan Still living in stone age. This naval exercise is sharing the technology and friendliness for the future any requirements. All the developing countries like Australia, Singapore, Hongkong, Japan etc. they do all these kind of excercises. If we do this kind of activities atleast we can develop our technology, what we are going to loose in that? I hope this is good move by our Prime Minister & for our countries interest.

Do not look for always benefits, some time need give and take in business. Sometimes need to loose also to make profit. Don't expect profit one's. Sharing the ideology/techonology is not loosing anything and mutual understanding should be there always. Varadarajan is directing the people in wrong direction, to make himself and his party to fame. If like that let him join film industry to become famous.
