Bring petrol, diesel under GST - CM H D Kumaraswamy in New Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS): Amid protests over rising fuel prices in the country, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said the petroleum products should be brought under Goods and Services Tax (GST), adding his government would think over reducing cess on diesel and petrol.

He said the cess imposed on petrol and diesel in Karnataka was "lowest" in the country yet he would hold discussion with his officials to see if it can be reduced further.

Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal- Secular has extended its support to the Bharat Bandh called by the Congress to protest against the rising fuel prices.

He said the Chief Ministers of all the states should take up the issue of including petroleum products in the GST.

Kumaraswamy will also meet Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan here on Monday afternoon.

Why petrol, diesel and alcohol excluded from GST? Doesn't it encourage tax evasion and corruption? When entire nation wanted these products to come under GST, why the Central government is showing dictatorship? Then what is the meaning of single point tax policy. Something smelling fishy.

The PM of India wants all states to implement GST on petrol and diesel but none of the states (including BJP ruled states) will do that because states will lose their main source of income. The CM is just showing his support to PM to reduce the cost for our own good. He is not teaching the PM anything, but he s helping you modi bhakts spend less.thats all :)

    that's the end goal!
the petrol prices are being artificially raised so that the states are forced to bring it under gst. and everyone is nicely falling into the trap laid by bjp.

You really think so?? How many non-BJP state governments have reduced their state taxes on petroleum products? Last time I checked, Punjab, TN, Telangana, Karnataka, etc still continue to charge the same tax rate!! As far as I know, only AP and Rajasthan have reduced the state taxes by around Rs. 2 per litre.

I am also wondering, how come a corrupt government as labelled by BJP can have everything in control and people too were not feeling the pinch! And then how come another government be so clean without any sort of corruption and people are feeling like fish out of water!!!????
