Jaitley rejects Mallya's claim, says never met him

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday rejected Vijay Mallya's claim that the fugitive businessman met him before he left India two years ago.

"My attention has been drawn to a statement made to the media by Vijay Mallya on having met me with an offer of settlement. The statement is factually false inasmuch as it does not reflect truth," he said in a Facebook post shortly after the fugitive businessman made the claim outside a London court where he is facing extradition trial.

Jaitley said he had never given Mallya any appointment to meet him since 2014 and "the question of his having met me does not arise".

"However, since he was a Member of Rajya Sabha and he occasionally attended the House, he misused that privilege on one occasion while I was walking out of the House to go to my room.

"He paced up to catch up with me and while walking uttered a sentence that 'I am making an offer of settlement'," the Minister said.

Jaitley said having been fully briefed about his earlier "bluff offers", without allowing him to proceed with the conversation, "I curtly told him 'there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers'. I did not even receive the papers that he was holding in his hand."

The Minister said besides this one-sentence exchange where he misused his privilege as a Rajya Sabha Member in order to further his commercial interest as a bank debtor, he never gave Mallya any appointment to meet him.

This is what happens when you appoint a lawyer as the Finance Minister. The lawyer will always think of saving his own skin and that of his saheb.

When 9000 crores of the nation's wealth and prestige is at stake - any person with a little common sense will act prudently. Jaitley should have immediately invited Mallya for a proper meeting on the same day, with all documents and conducted a mutually agreed recorded meeting. If Mallya showed genuine desire to discuss settlement, then the next meeting would be a joint session with the bankers. Instead Jaitley failed in his duties and allowed Mallya to escape the country.

"I was standing here during the lunch break and I happened to answer a question on the circumstances under which I flew out," Mallya said. "I said, 'I happened to meet Mr Jaitley in Parliament and I told him I was leaving for London, that I want to settle with the banks and would he please facilitate these discussions. I did not have any formal meeting scheduled with him. I met him often enough in Parliament and the House and I have expressed my willingness to settle on many an occasion. I don't understand what this controversy is all about.'"

Jaitley-Potley-Phootley!?!?!?. The topic of settlement, bank papers, offer to the bankers has come up in the discussion. Then with whom Jaitley was discussing these matters if he has not Mallya. Jaitley has agreed discussing with Mallya. Moreover, Mallya belongs to same party as Jaitley which is divine, honest and patriotic party as defined by BJP, so how can you evade him. Buddy-Buddy honest in crime.

Here Mallya admitting that he met BJP biggie Arun jetly before leaving. How come congress’s name arises here? This Sri elder has similar problems like Arnab gobarswamy’s.

Now, all channels telecasting the story about Mallya & jetly. Only republic tv has the same topic but little twisted. He claims that Mallya & Congress connections.

Arnab did not learn from his previous mistakes.
