Not only Jaitley, entire BJP must come clean on ties with Mallya: Yashwant Sinha

New Delhi, Sep 13(PTI): Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said Wednesday that the entire BJP leadership, not just Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, must come clean on its ties with embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya.

Sinha's remarks came soon after Mallya, facing charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs 9,000 crore, said in London that he met the finance minister before leaving India last year.

"Not only the finance minister, the entire BJP must come clean on its relations with Vijay Mallya," tweeted Sinha, a former union finance minister who has been critical of Jaitley and his handling of the ministry.

Mallya, the 62-year-old former Kingfisher Airline boss, who arrived in London to appear before the Westminster Magistrates' Court in a case regarding his extradition to India to face the trial on fraud and money laundering charges, was asked by reporters if he was "tipped off" to leave the country.

"I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva. I met the finance minister before I left, repeated my offer to settle with the banks. That is the truth," he responded, without naming the minister.

Arun Jaitley was the finance minister in 2016 when Mallya left India.

    The Truth has finally come out in the open. As usual Modi Saab will remain tight lipped becoz he just does not believe in accountability as his own chair will be rocked. No doubt other big business men especially from Gujarat followed the example of Mallya after virtually looting the banks and slashing away tax payers money abroad.

    Forget Black monet from Swiss banks, even our own money taht these business men have slashed abroad will never come back given this understanding between Politicians and crony business men.

    Vijay Mallya, left the country with full preparation taking all his personal belongings (7 suitcases) along with him. That shows that he diligently worked out the scheme with the coordination of some influential political figures.

    I remember his 2010-11 days. Mallya used to meet aviation minister. King fisher airlines was about to be closed but sbi along with consortium of banks gave him another 300 crores loans. Airline operated for another one month....
