Bangalore, Oct 30: Speaking at his first official press conference held here after assuming charge as the working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee(KPCC), D K Shivakumar(DKS) informed the newsmen, that the KPCC has decided to constitute a fact-finding committee to look into the reasons for the drubbing the Congress faced in the recent assembly election.
The Committee will try to pinpoint which classes of the society grew disgruntled with the Congress party and for what reasons. It will also find out the reasons and hopes based on which those who supported the party, voted for it. The fact-finding committee will come out with a list of the plus points of the party and also lacunae if any, to enable the KPCC to take up corrective measures to improve the situation.
Two observers will be deputed to each of the assembly constituencies in which the Congress had to taste defeat. These observers will meet local workers and leaders, and find out details of the people who deserted the party during the last decade, reasons for their decision and whether their decisions were taken because of personal reasons or party policies. The committee will submit a detailed report to the party leadership after concluding the study.
Giving these details, while explaining about the initiatives undertaken by him to revive the party fortunes in the state, DKS said, that the party was confident of rising to power on its own in the last hustings and that it wants to find out what went wrong with its plans. The members for the committee will be announced soon, he informed.
"A meeting of all the 224 candidates who fought with the Congress ticket, has been convened in the city on November 5. Except these candidates, MLAs, MPs and the party office bearers, no one else will be allowed to attend the deliberations. The candidates will be given a free hand to express their opinions at the meeting," DKS said.
"Once the observers complete their task, teams led by the KPCC present and myself will visit various constituencies to infuse confidence and invigorate the local Congress units and candidates, he explained.
