Bring oil back to 2014 prices, Congress dares Modi

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS): Shortly after the central government announced a Rs 2.50 per litre cut on petrol and diesel prices, the Congress dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring the fuel prices back to the 2014 level instead of throwing a "pittance of one or two rupees" at the public.

Addressing mediapersons here, Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala called the cut "a panic reaction in the face of public anger" ahead of assembly polls in four states.

Pointing out that the BJP-ruled states Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan levy the highest value added tax (VAT) on petroleum products, he demanded that fuel be brought under the GST, whose tax slabs are much lower than the VAT levied in states.

Surjewala said that an RTI reply has revealed that the Modi government was selling petrol and diesel to several countries at less than half the price at which it was being sold in India. This showed that this government "is fleecing its own people."

International crude oil prices have reduced by 40% since the Modi Government came to power. The party said the price of crude was $107.09/barrel in May 2014 and is presently at $73/barrel. The average price per barrel of crude during the past 52 months has been $50 per barrel, said Congress, ie nearly 55% less than it was during the tenure of the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government. Yet prices of petrol and diesel continue to rise during the Modi Government.
Narendra Modi had asked the middle class to give up their LPG subsidy so that the poor can benefit, however the price of non-subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinders increased by ₹465 since May 2014, when the Modi Govt came to power, from ₹414 per cylinder then to ₹879 per cylinder in September, 2018 in Delhi. The price of subsidised gas cylinder has risen by ₹90 since May, 2014, from ₹412 per cylinder to ₹502 per cylinder in September, 2018 in Delhi.
BJP should stop giving excuses on fuel prices. By increasing fuel prices, the Modi government has collected ₹11 lakh crore. Where has this huge money gone?
Prices rise, household savings fall but PM busy in rallies.

Gift to voters ? That is BJP voters certainly ?

Does that mean that India functioned only because BJP supporters ? Then Modi should return taxes paid by all non-BJP supporters. Including what his cronies gained out of raised petrol costs.

UPA amassed huge amounts of loans which it just passed on to Modiji.
They sold petrol at very low rates while they paid nothing for the imports. The present government does not just want the loans to be passed on to the next generations. With slightly higher money collected from fuel sales, the debts are being cleared off.
I am ready to pay whatever Modi asks us to pay for the petrol.

Whose loan re-payments Mr. Kumara ? Mallya, NiMo's or world bank 's ? If WB, have you checked how much loan MMS re-paid in 2010 ? That was taken by his predecessor ? Did MMS go ga-ga about it as Modi went about ?

That's because an experienced government does its duty unproclaimingly. Unlike Modi's trial & erreor ga-ga govt.
