Rafale 'scam': Prashant Bhushan, Shourie seek CBI inquiry

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS): Former BJP Minister Arun Shourie and Supreme Court Advocate Prashant Bhushan on Thursday demanded that the CBI file a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for alleged abuse of public office causing undue benefit worth "tens of thousands of crores" to a crony capitalist in the Rafale jet fighter deal.

The complaint, handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation Director Alok Kumar Verma, was made in relation to an alleged scam in the purchase of 36 fighter jets from the French manufacturer Dassault Aviation.

The duo also demanded that an FIR, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, be filed against the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation, and industrialist Anil Ambani, whose Reliance Aerostructure Limited (RAL) was chosen under the deal as the offset partner, "for conspiring with the Prime Minister".

The complaint accused Modi of securing "undue benefit" of about Rs one lakh crore to the private company by "unilaterally cancelling the deal" struck earlier, and compelling the French defence company to choose the Indian firm in question as the offset partner.

They also charged Modi with keeping the other "public servants", including the then Defence Secretary and Defence Minister, in the dark about the changes in the deal.

People seem to assume that CBI is justice personified.

The top cadres of CBI may be appointed by a political party.

As security agencies knew Mallya was a flight-risk, CBI gave orders to airports to "detain" Mallya.

Sometime in between Mallya had a meeting with the FM.

CBI changed the airport orders to "inform". And the CBI officers went to bed.

Mallya flew over the cuckoo's nest.

The Nexux between Modi and all the Gujarati Business men is well known. High time the Govt orders a Joint Parlimentary Probe into the Rafale Scam which when compared to the 60 crores Bofors scan appears like a Himaliyan Scam.

The Govt must come clean on this scam as it will not die down until the whole truth is known to the country.

From day one we knew that PM is entering into secret deals with Ambani and we Indians are still blind. Lets apply for trade mark on Tea, Pakoda and cow Urine lest we lose cow dung and urine. Rafale scam is beyond our comprehension. If PM has not followed the procedure is it not enough to disqualify him for being corrupt? Congress was rotten and was dismissed and now use the same courage and standard to retire BJP. Some may argue that corruption money will be made holy money by using it to build temple. Dedicate the temple to all those who looted the citizens. We pay for the looters and vote for them to loot more.

My believing/not believing him is immaterial here, I'm just stating a likely consequence if he joins the chorus that is being sung by Shourie and Bhushan at the moment.
