Not even a dog: Cong's Mallikarjun Kharge remark on RSS, BJP year after PM rebuke

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI): More than a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebuffed him for similar remarks, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday that "not even a dog" from the homes of RSS and BJP leaders had died for the country's independence.

The AICC general secretary was speaking at a rally to launch the second phase of the party's Jan Sangharsh Yatra in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district in Faizpur.

"We (Congress) gave our life for the country and made sacrifices. Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for unity of the country. Rajiv Gandhi gave his life for the nation. Tell me, did even a dog die in a house of BJP, RSS (leaders) for the country's freedom?" Kharge said.

"Tell us, which of your people went to jail (for India's independence)," Kharge said.

In February, 2017, PM Modi had slammed Kharge, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, for a similar remark.

"People such as Gandhi ji, Indira ji sacrificed their lives for the country's unity, who was there from your side? Not even a dog," Kharge had said in the Lower House.

PM Modi later said during a speech in the Lok Sabha, "the Congress has never spoken of the contribution of freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh and Chandra Shekhar Azad. They think only one family has given us freedom".

Notably, Faizpur was the venue of the Congress' first convention in rural areas in 1936. It was then attended by Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and other leaders.

As part of the yatra, Congress leaders are touring Maharashtra, covering almost 150 Assembly seats over three months, in what is being touted as the party's largest mass outreach campaign in the state.

The first phase of the yatra, from Kolhapur to Pune across western Maharashtra, where the party lost its grip in the 2014 polls, concluded on September 8.

During the second phase, party leaders will campaign across north Maharashtra till October 9.

Mr Kharge is right, of course.

In 1942, Mr Vallabh Bhai Patel organised the Quit India protests on behalf of the Congress Party.

Guess, who chose not to join? RSS of course.

And who actually supported the British occupiers at the time against the freedom fighters? RSS of course.

And now the RSS-man Gujju-bhai is using taxpayers' one billion dollars to build a "Mack in China" mega statue to honour of the same Mr Vallabh Bhai Patel.

BJP got ready in inheritance the nation that was at a economic level in 2014, a result of hard work done by Congress Party since independence. BJP did not take time to question 'what has India achieved in 70 years' but just see what they have done to the economy in just four years ? Where is Rupee in comparison of US$. ? Where are our oil prices ? How honest are we in election results ?

If the nation was in the hands of BJP till now since independence, today India would have been divided in bits and pieces cast-wise. The economy would have been worse than that of Pak or Bangla. If we are walking with our heads up when we are in foreign countries, its because of the Congress and its people friendly policies. For the way we have educated ourselves with the help of govt policies, with the position we grace abroad.

No, not because of GST, Demonetization or Swachch Bhaarat.

For BJP running a govt is not meant for them it's not thier cup of tea. BJP can atmost can be a opposition to find fault and point fingers. Looking at the way they have run the govt India is in grave miserable condition, economically, socially, politically etc. If BJP themselves realize this and step down it will be a great service to the nation even if they have not contributed anything for independence of India.
