Udupi, Nov 6:
Lush green vegetation of over 110 acres and a lake covering 60 acres—a potential tourist hotspot. Found along the way to Manipal Heritage Village, this lake was developed around five years ago as a boating facility with six pedal boats, one cycle boat, and a mechanized boat.

Although targeted at tourists, students of nearby colleges were its most frequent visitors particularly on weekends. A committee of 12 officers was formed under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner (DC) to oversee the development of the lake.  Several more projects were undertaken with financial assistance from Manipal Rotary Club and the district-in-charge minister’s fund.

As a result, a children’s playground, open air theater, and a 2.5 km jogging track have come up here.  A blueprint has also been prepared which includes proposals such as illumination of the entire area, setting up of a garden for picnics, planting of trees in the middle of the lake to attract migratory birds, and building of an exhibition gallery for displaying pre-Independence era pictures.

If all these are undertaken at the earliest, Manipal Nature Park will soon become a reality bringing revenue to the district and providing ample job opportunities for the locals.

When there is such a huge area for this project, why not have a good resort, where people can come from outside Mangalore and relax and spend their holidays. It should be a place which meets the requirements of the people which offers various amenities like swimming pool facility, gym and other star requirements.

It looks OK for the village folks to jump over the stones and mud even if one stone falls in to the water with some mud still they would swim to safety. If foreigners and people from across India are to be attracted some work needs to be done in terms of safety, accessibiity and cleaniless.

    1. Clear accrss to the area and transport ( Public transport ) 2. Designated places for washing and cleaning ( sulabh Shouchalayas) 3. Designated palces for waste disposal and visible and clean dust bins with provision for waste to be concealed and not spilling out. 4. Ample security personnel and watchmen to protect and guide the visitors. 5. Additional food and beverages outlets ( small businessess will much more eager to spring up ) controlled and functioning under municipality norms and guidelines. 6. All measures to be taken to protect and promote originality and purity of the nature at all costs and to keep away meneses that intrude and flourish when a place like this comes up and develops and provides source of income.. ( Slums, Beggers and stray animals-Dogs and cats) A concerted effort is required to nurture, develop and protect all the nature that is there and to build on and further progress to make it much more active, much more inviting.... Last but not the least The boat loading and landing area to be built up clean and strong steps, hand bars for safety and protection. etc.....

    Good luck and great going....

If foreign tourists are to visit this place, it is better that arrangements are made for them to be brought in bypassing Udupi area roads and traffic lest they remember these and forget the Nature Park.
