Fuel prices continue to rise, Modi to meet oil company heads

New Delhi, Oct 14 (IANS) Fuel prices continued to rise across the four major metros on Sunday even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to meet oil company chiefs here on Monday to take stock of the global energy scenario.

In the national capital, petrol was priced at Rs 82.72 per litre, up from Rs 82.66 on Saturday, data on the Indian Oil Corporation website showed.

Similarly, petrol prices in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai also rose on Sunday -- to Rs 88.18 in Mumbai, Rs 84.54 in Kolkata and Rs 85.99 per litre in Chennai.

The prices vary from region to region due to local taxes, as the product is excluded from the Goods and Services Tax regime. Delhi has the lowest tax rate among the four metro cities.

The increase in transport fuel prices comes amid a continuous surge in global crude oil prices. UK Brent crude has gone upwards of $85 per barrel.

Earlier this month, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a cut in excise duty by Rs 1.50 a litre. Additionally, the state-owned oil marketing companies have been mandated to reduce prices of petrol and diesel by Re 1 a litre each.

Diesel prices also rose across the four metros on Sunday.

Diesel was selling in Mumbai at Rs 79.02, up from Rs 78.82 on Saturday. Prices in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai were Rs 75.38, Rs 77.23 and Rs 79.71 per litre, respectively.

Meanwhile, official sources said that Modi will meet the chief executives of major global and Indian oil and gas companies as the US sanctions on Iran comes into effect from November 4, and as crude oil prices continue to be volatile.

He is also expected discuss ways to revive investment in India's upstream sector.

One of the 'Oil producing country' is Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited(ONGC). BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra , a popular face on TV channels, has was appointed as non-official director on the board of the ONGC.
In may last year, the Centre’s BJP government had rewarded its key leaders with plum appointments as independent directors in the so-called navratna PSUs.

Jai Ho!Hard work pays off for a failed surgeon. sambitswaraj appointed as a non-official director of ONGC. The post is a highly paying one Rs 23-27 lakhs plus per year) and that state largess has been passed on to such ineligible persons only because they are close to the government who can't control the prices.

Just ask what they said when the oli price dropped below $30/barrel. What did they do with the profit? Now stop discussing and wait for Rs. 100/liter. Stop fooling the citizens with lies after lies. Hope pakods and chai won't be sold by majority citizens. Now wait, one will come with fresh agreement about Rafale from Frace. As the Supreme Court asked. Tailored agreement to satisfy the Supreme Court.
RAFALE is BJP master-plan to fill BJP coffers which can be used to bribe the voters. Corrupt congress and rotten BJP all the same. If you don't play communal card, BJP is flat. Inflate with inflammatory communal statements to galvanize illiterate masses. Use cows and urine as the election issue and you win.

Modiji what difference does it make talking to oil companies, Government itself projected it could me making 1.5-2.3lakh crore from petro products.
We know you have lot of things to worry about when it comes to necessity of the people.
Why cant you sacrifice a major share?
You talk to your fellow colleages about sacrificing their tour programs and other mode of expenditures.
We the people can manage without an MP,MLA, MLC.
The expenditure stats from our own gentlemens z too much, we pay their bills rather they pay it from their pocket.
Come on, its about the people rather the life style of our representatives.

Why not advice directly your minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources?. Then advice your finance minister to slash GST on rising fuel prices. Are you losing something by doing this?. Don't fool people by your fake talk ' Meet Oil Company Heads'. These can not do anything unless you tell them something.

He is just buying time, hoping that global oil prices would drop somehow which would enable him to drop the domestic prices by a paisa, or two as usual, but that's enough for bhakths' devotion for the 11th Avtar to multiply by many folds.
