Kerala, Oct 21: Activist Rehana Fathima, who was 500 meters short to enter the Sabarimala’s sanctum sanctorum on October 19, has been debarred from the Muslim community by Kerala Muslim Jama’ath Council.

A press statement issued by Council President A Pookunju on Saturday reads, “The Council has directed the Ernakulam Central Muslim Jama’ath to expel her and her family from the membership of Mahallu. Her act hurt lacs of Hindu devotees and it is against the rituals of Hindu community.” 

The statement also expressed displeasure on Rehana taking part in ‘kiss of love’ campaign as well as acting nude in a film. “She has no right to use a Muslim name. The state government should register a case against her under section 153A of the IPC for creating communal hatred,” the statement by Pookunju read.

Pookunju has also demanded action against IGS Sreejith as he provided security to ‘anti-social elements’ who were trying to enter the temple.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, Rehana plans to seek legal remedy against the chief priest of Sabarimala for acting as a human shield along with other protestors, barring her entry into the temple.

She said that the priest asked for the purification of the route she took to climb the temple, as she was a Muslim. Asserting that Sabarimala is a secular place of worship, she said attempts were made to start communal riots but outraging religious feelings.

On Friday, Rehana Fathima and journalist Kavitha Jakkal were stopped from entering Sabarimala by protestors. Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran said activists cannot be allowed inside the temple, as it was not the time to show their power of activism. Rehana and Kavitha were escorted back to safety. Back in Kochi, Rehana’s home was vandalized by an unidentified mob.
