Our ex-minister read someone's else speech: BJP leader recalls 2011 gaffe to mock UPA

Hyderabad, Oct 28(Zee News): Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Ram Madhav on Sunday trained guns at the former Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government by recalling a faux pas that took place on a world platform in 2011.

He applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for giving India recognition on the world stage. In the same breath, he added that our external affairs ministers were never noticed in the past under the previous government.

"There was a time when our external affairs ministers were never noticed at international forums including at the United Nations. There were funny instances like that of once an Indian foreign minister reading speech of foreign minister of another country. Today, the PM and the External Affairs Minister are noticed around the world," Madhav said.

The BJP National General Secretary was apparently referring to a gaffe in 2011 when the then external affairs minister in the UPA government SM Krishna inadvertently read out a Portuguese Minister's speech at the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.

Speaking at the UNSC during a debate on security and development, Krishna read the wrong speech for about three minutes. The error was noticed by the then Indian envoy to the UN Hardeep Singh Puri and the minister was then quickly alerted.

Krishna did not realise his mistake that he was reading Portuguese Foreign Minister Luis Amado's speech, apparently because the first portion was related to general issues pertaining to the UN, development, and security.

"On a more personal note, allow me to express my profound satisfaction regarding the happy coincidence of having two members of the Portuguese Speaking Countries, Brazil and Portugal, together here today," was one of the statements made by Krishna during his speech before being corrected.

At the said event, the Portuguese minister had already spoken before India.

Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Ram Madhav may be suffering from dementia or post-Ghazni effect. Did Ram Madhav forget the PM Modi's A Teleprompter Gaffe?

It was while Mr. Modi was addressing the Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena and his wife who are on a four-day tour of India. Modi, while addressing the Sri Lankan First Lady managed to read out the acronym 'M.R.S' and called her M.R.S Sirisena, instead of Mrs Sirisena.

Madhav who use to be a spokesperson of RSS knows little about Indian history. The MEA was founded in 1946, a few months before India got Independence from the British. The first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru kept the portfolio with himself till his death in 1964.

For a younger generation to truly appreciate the visionary Nehru was, our historians need to recast him more credible. The India that Nehru took charge of in 1947 was miserably poor, hardly literate and unable to feed itself. It was also traumatised by a violent partition.

Pandit Nehru played a pivotal role in shaping India’s foreign policy. The MEA, which was a holdover of the British Raj, was established in 1948. It was previously known as the ‘Ministry of External Affairs and Commonwealth Relations’ under the Imperial government. PM Nehru held the portfolio as an additional charge up until his death.

The formation of the interim government in 1946 saw India taking steps to establish friendly relations with all countries. The formation of the interim government also saw India establish diplomatic relations and exchanged ambassadors with USA, USSR, China and a few other countries.

India became the first country to adopt the Policy of Non-Alignment, under Nehru’s guidance. India organised the Asians Relations Conference at Delhi, in 1947, where independent India’s principles of foreign policy were proclaimed. It was attended by representatives of 29 countries. The solidarity of all Asian countries was strengthened as a result of this conference.

Madhava, do you realize that same minister is in your party now in spite of that gaffe you have embraced him with all your heart and rewarded him a seat in your party. Is there any limit to your high flying publicity stunts without realizing the damage you are causing down below. BJP is so desparate that they are losing their mental balance. Don't you have faith in EVMs?????....
