Bengaluru: BJP warns of fighting against Tipu Jayanti

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 5: Even as the government has said that it is determined to go ahead in the matter of celebrating Tipu Jayanti as a government function, BJP, which has been fighting against the move, warned that it would fight against the move.

Union minister for skill development and entrepreneurship, Ananth Kumar Hegde, has already written to the chief secretary of Karnataka, asking the official not to mention his name when printing invitations for Tipu Jayanti celebrations. Deputy home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, who holds home portfolio, has reiterated that in spite of opposition, Tipu Jayanti will be celebrated this year too.

BJP leader, C T Ravi, said that his party will fight against Tipu Jayanti within the limitations of democratic rights.

Ananth Kumar Hegde, who had even in the past expressed resentment at the celebration of Tipu Jayanti, again asked the chief secretary of the state this year not to mention his name in the invitation as per protocol. "People and rationalists have opposed Tipu Jayanti since it was conceived by the previous government, in a big way. We understand from history that Tipu was anti-Kannada and anti-Hindu. Opposition to the celebration of his birthday has been expressed by the people of all the districts, which also had given rise to protests and violence. I condemn the efforts being made to glorify a person who as anti-social," he stated.

C T Ravi said that Tipu, in addition to being against Kannada, was also a communal. "He had changed the names of several places including Mysuru. He was not a king the citizens loved. We do not need to celebrate the birthday of such a person," he said. At the same time, he stated that if the government plans to celebrate birthdays of Santa Shishunal Shariff, Mirza Ismail etc, he and his party will support such an initiative. "We oppose the celebration of the birth anniversary of a communal. We will draw up protest plan within the limits of the current law. Congress is losing its popularity because of glorification of such a person. In the past, Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy had said that celebrating Tipu Jayanti by the government was unnecessary. Now they are celebrating the occasion on behalf of the government," he commented.

Dr G Parameshwar said that all precautions will be taken to ensure that untoward incidents do not happen during Tipu Jayanti. About the letter written by union minister, Ananth Kumar Hegde, he said that the minister's name appears in the invitation as per the protocol and it is left to the choice of the minister either to take part in the function or not. "I have huge respect for veteran researcher, Dr A Chidananda Murthy. He has opposed this celebration. Everyone enjoys the right to speech. But the decision to celebrate Tipu Jayanti was taken long back, and it will go on as planned," he clarified.

    Dear Fayaz,
Your opinion is based on the correct version taught in our textbooks. So nothing wrong in it I suppose. However, you must know that there was a deliberate attempt to revise Indian history to suite the post-independence (post-partition) India to enable better cohesion within the society and rid society of mutual hatred as a result of a century old divide and rule policy of British. In the hindsight, our policymakers of that time were right. However, every measure has its own pros and cons. While Tipu is a freedom fighter, Shivaji is not considered so; while both were fighting external occupation.

However, this water-downing of history does not go well with many communities in Mangalore, Madikeri and areas ruled by Tipu, because persecution by Tipu has passed on through generations by word of mouth despite the official version repainted immediately after India gained Independence.

As you belong to this region, it is probably better to be sensitive to the feelings of others specifically from your region. BJP being a political party is doing exactly what any party would do in any democratic country -> Playing to the audience & its voter-base who have strong ill feelings about Tipu.

Kumaranna would become "BALI KA BAKRA " because of Congress stubborn attitude!!! Very soon Kumaranna will join with Siddu and BSY in the list of ex CM'S forever!!!!!

Tipu Jayanti is nothing other than pleasing the Muslim community to whom present government can't give anything except "Ullu Banaying " through these controversial JAYANTIS!!!!! Where as, even the Muslim community is not FULLY with Congress and JDS party.

They go behind Owaisi whenever he enter Karnataka. Otherwise they choose SDPI or some other rough parties, eg. is Ullal municipal election. Muslim women candidates won even though their photo was not printed on the hand bills, neither they canvased even once!!!!! There is not a single Dynamic GOOD leader in Karnataka Congress like Sachin Pilot or Jyotiraditya Scindia or Surjewala!!!!! Congress people very well aware that celebrating "Tipu the Butcher's " Jayanti is the " End of Kumaranna's " political life and Congress want to do this purposefully!!!!!!

    Nithin ,

If hegdewar is from RSS, who came from congress, then who is stopping BJP/FEKU not to portray him, why BJP/RSS is in search of people who fought independence and forcibly taking PATEL as their mentor who himself was against RSS and building his statue.
BJP/RSS do not have any freedom fighter so they are in search ........as they cannot portray NATHURAM GODSE.....for his past

every one knows that bjp is breed of RSS who were collaborators and informers to British.

None of RSS team fought for the nation and none sacrificed his blood for the nation. Whereas Tippu sacrificed his life to free india from british rule. Shame on the anti national who are opposing tippu jayanti.

However i do not favor karnataka Govt for celebrating tippu jayanti. Nothing can be gained by celebrating Tippu jayanti. Instead of this they can distribute food items or money to the most needed people or donate to orphanage, old homes, hospitals etc. By doing this Govt will be able to shut the mouth of anti nationals. Let them bark. Its their by birth right and they are doing what they did before independence.

    All political gimmick....

Practicing Muslim does not need Tippu Jayanti.... they are not suppose to celebrate the birthday of Prophet (PBUH) where as Tippu was just a king... Makkah, Madina or Saudi Arabia does not celebrate Eid Milad where Prophet (PBUH) was born. it was initiated by a Egypt King and later all over the world due to lack of knowledge and imitating Western culture including Arab counties.. So called Kerala Ulema are in high to celebrate Eid Milad in Gulf counties making couple of Arab people to sit in the front row or in stage.

We have government holiday for Eid Milad as well...

BJP have left no other good work to win election except using Muslim, either in the name of Babri Masjid, Beef, Fake love jihad, Baba Budan Giri, Tal Mahal...... list continues...

THESE PROGRAMMED SICK BRAINS OF RSS REALLY CROSSING EVERY LIMIT. RSS VERSION OF INDIAN HISTORY WILL DESTROY TRUE ESSENCE, SECULARISM AND BEAUTY OF INDIA. THERE IS NO WONDER BJP FIGHT AGAINST TRUE PATRIOTS, THEY STARTED IT EVEN BEFORE INDEPENDENCE BY COWARDLY SPYING IN FAVOUR OF THEIR BRITISH ANCESTORS. THEY CONTINUED IT BY KILLING GANDHI TO GAURI. IT'S DISASTROUS THAT PEOPLE MADE THEM RULE A NATION WHICH CELEBRATES DEMOCRACY, CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND SECULARISM.

It is crap that congress bought on itself. Tipu is not going to help congress to get any additional votes.

If at all any community that should be annoyed with Tipu, that was christian community. Tipu's wrath was on Christians whom he accused of siding with British, while he heroically fought against British.

BJP has problems with both Tipu also and Christians community also. Christians get accused by RSS as practicing foreign religion and conversions. Tipu on the other hand who was good with Hindu's and fighting against British, find in their just because of his name.

It is funny the way all political parties use history to milk votes.
