1 killed in Melbourne stabbing

Melbourne, Nov 9 (IANS): One person was killed and two others were injured on Friday in a stabbing incident in Melbourne while the suspect has been shot by police.

The police initially responded to a vehicle fire on Bourke Street, reports Efe news. When police arrived at the scene, "they were confronted by a male brandishing a knife and threatening them", Victoria Police Superintendent David Clayton told reporters.

"Police shot the male in the chest and he is now in a critical condition under guard in hospital," he said. Clayton said there was no known link to terrorism and police were not looking for other offenders at this stage, but they were calling for witnesses and those with visual evidence such as video and photos to come forward.
