M’lore: Bahrain Kannada Sangha, Nagatihalli among Nudisiri Awardees

Mangalore, Nov 21: Ten people including the Bahrain Kannada Sangha will be conferred with the 'Alva's Nudisiri' award on the occasion of the fifth annual Alva's Nudisiri programme being organized by Alva's Education Foundation.
Daroji Eramma, Go Ru Chennabasappa, Dr Sa Shi Marulaiah, Hostota Manjunath Bhagawat, Dr N S Lakshminarayana Bhat, Sadanand Suvarna, A Eshwaraiah, Y K Muddukrishna and Nagatihalli Chandrashekhar have been chosen to receive the awards for making memorable contributions to their respective fields.
Daroji Eramma is a singer of 'Burra Katha', the heritage system of telling mythological stories through singing of epic poetry with the help of burra, which is a kind of 'tambura' with a few assistants tuning in with the singing, acting as chorus or enhancing dialogue delivery and providing comic additives. Several of the epics sung by her, which are inherited by generations orally, have since been edited.

Go Ru Chennabasappa, a well-known writer, has served in Kannada Sahitya parishat, as president of All India Sharana Saitya parishat etc. and has won various awards.
Nagatihalli Chandrashekhar has created his own imprint in the cinema and television media, besides being a successful short story writer. He is also a successful columnist and writer.
Sadanand Suvarna, who has written various stories, has translated various plays to Kannada from other languages. He also made several good films.
A Eshwaraiah, a journalist by profession, has worked for several organizations to promote art.
Dr N S Lakshminarayan Bhat is a well-known poet who has penned poems that have won several awards and is a renowned critic. His poems for the children too have become very popular. Bhat is the recipient of several awards including Dr Shivram Karant Award.
Manjunat Bhagawat is an accomplished Yakshagana artiste and writer of Yakshagana episodes. He has written over 185 Yakshagana episodes.
Y K Muddukrishna, who has worked in Kannada and Culture department, successfully organized Hampi Utsav, Kadambotsav, Lakkundi Utsav etc., during his term. He is a fine singer too, and over 50 cassettes/CDs containing songs sung by him have been released so far.
Dr Sa Sahi Marulaiah has written various works including over 10 collections of poems, novels, plays, and several other subjects.
Kannada Sangha Bahrain, which took birth in 1977, had won the Rajyotsava award in 2001. It has been organizing blood donation camps, computer education camps, Kannada training classes, music, dance, summer camps, competitions, Yakshagana, sports activities and has been contributing immensely towards spreading Kannada flavour.
