Mumbai, Nov 22 (NIE): In the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, a special court rejected applications filed by Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit and Dayanand Chaturvedi seeking access to documents, not truncated by the prosecution, including witness statements.
Special Judge V S Padalkar rejected the pleas stating that they were “vague” and filed with an intention to delay the trial.
The court also said that the pleas were filed with a “hidden agenda” and cannot be accepted. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had opposed the plea stating that the case is highly sensitive and in order to protect the interest of the witnesses, their identities were not disclosed.
Last month, the special court had framed charges against the accused, including Purohit and six others, under sections of murder, criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
