Appropriate for BJP to have 'principal conspirator' as its chief: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS): After a CBI officer testified in a court that Amit Shah was among the "principal conspirators" in the 2006 Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday took a swipe at the BJP saying it was "appropriate" for the BJP to have such a man as its President.

"The Gita says you can never escape the truth and so it has always been. Sandeep Tamgadge has called Amit Shah a "key conspirator" in his testimony. It's completely appropriate for the BJP to have such a man as its President," tweeted Gandhi.

The Congress leader's remarks came a day after Tamgadge, the chief investigating officer in the Prajapati case, told a CBI court that Shah and former IPS officer D.G. Vanzara were the "principal conspirators".

Tamgadge in his deposition, also said that Shah was part of "criminal-politician-police nexus" and Prajapati, Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Sohrabuddin's wife Kausar Bi were killed as a result of this nexus.

A Nagaland cadre IPS officer, Tamgadge investigated both the cases involving the killings of Sohrabuddin and Prajapati allegedly in staged encounters.

The CBI had earlier indicted and arrested Shah of being a "part of the larger conspiracy to kill Sohrabuddin, subsequently his wife and finally Prajapati. But he was later discharged of the charges by a CBI court in December 2014 months after the Narendra Modi-led BJP came to power at the Centre.

Politicians in India are never convicted for their criminal acts. They escape culpability somehow. That is how this "Chief" is being given clean chits, one after the other, in all his nefarious activities after 2014 the year in which his party came to power at centre. But the citizens of this country are eagerly waiting to see a day when all the politicians involved in criminal activities are brought to book.
