Mangaluru, Nov 24: It is learnt that the meeting of search committee formed to choose a candidate to be made vice chancellor of Mangalore University on Friday November 23 witnessed heated exchange of words between the members.

The meeting, held at the Utility Building in Bengaluru, was chaired by committee president, Dr Sidde Gowda, vice chancellor of Tumakuru University. Members, Dr Rame Gowda, Prahlad, and D B Nayak, attended the meeting.

Sources said that arguments took place between the representative of the government and the member representing the Governor on the issue of selection, for some time. It is gathered that the insistence of the government's representative to finalize the name suggested by him for the post should be picked, met with resistance from others. This gave rise to friction.

The search committee will therefore finalize three names and recommend these names to the government. The government in turn, will finalize one name and send to the Governor. If the Governor rejects the candidate, the government would be compelled to suggest another name. If this name too is rejected, a new search committee would be required to be appointed, sources stated.
